What you should do is pick one stack to work with, and become good at it. It's okay to not like the stack you picked, as long as it's popular. But learning is hard, so stick with whatever you picked to the point where you have a m

Also, to the extent that this article exists and people hear about working at Amazon being punishing and stressful or horrible warehouse jobs, if things have really changed, Amazon has a marketing/PR problem.

Maybe the engineering culture is less like what was described then the marketing and executive cultures? I'd also appreciate a female Amazon employee's perspective on gender, since they are more likely to notice issues that Nick w

Well we know that a controversy and dispute makes for a good article, but this could easily be about the shared benefits of WordPress, and how different people use WordPress to make money in different ways.

Race and class are tightly bound in America. But there are some things in the study that are at least suggestive that it's a racial difference. First they attempted to assess names race, and got rid of names that were insufficiently s

Indeed. Blatant honest racism is just one sort, but there is racism that is built into the system (like how white killers are mentally ill in the media, while black killers are called thugs), or unconsciously part of how you think (see ht

Sure, but minor offenses are often a pretense for racial profiling, where the thing that attracted the cop's attention is driving while black. It's why young African Americans are more likely to be arrested for minor drug offenses

Get your degree. Seriously, the lack of a CS degree will screw you over. Maybe not with this job, but you don't expect to work at this place for your whole career, right?

I think this works best if you pass a pointer to an error structure in the parameters. I've found people often use signed integer types with arrays so they can return a -1 to signal that something went wrong.

Git is pretty easy to contribute to, fwiw. Thought it does require you to create patches and send them to the mailing list like the linux kernel does.
