Sure, but again - it's the same argument - the author should have taken enough pride in the manuscript to produce quality work to begin with. That's the root cause that put the author in this position.

Yes, as an author, part of your job is to proofread your work. If this author published the work before it was actually ready, than I have zero sympathy for the author respective of the comments - next time publish quality work rather than

At least anyone who watches the episode today can't use that as a hint to bug you like I did nearly 30 years ago. :-)

Back when I watched the original NOVA episode, I noticed they showed his UUCP email address. Since I had recorded it on VHS, I paused it so I could write it down. I emailed Cliff, apologetically, but thanking him for the story. I was quite

This is simply wrong. $1000 is $1000. Period.

In practice it's really not that hard. We had a rotary phone until I was a teenager and never had any of these issues. Also note that 10 digit dialing for all numbers is a fairly recent thing. We had 7 and 5 digit dialing - less to rem

I'd really like to see a suffix in the title for links to articles that are not free and cannot actually be read. Something similar to the date in parentheses. Lately, a huge number of HN stories can't be read without paying money

Definitely, the solar price in that article is twice what I paid for my 9.4KW system. I wouldn't have gotten Tesla anyway, even if it was cheaper. This is not the sort of place I'm willing to be an early adopter - once they have p

A closed ecosystem certainly provides more value to the person that controls the ecosystem, but that's never in an end-user's best interests. Google wants to bring that "benefit" in so they can monetize it, like Apple do

Option 4: ban college sports. School should be about education, not sports.

I was getting fraud alerts via SMS for somebody elses bank account for quite awhile. I always replied "NO" - I did not make the charge in question, which is true. Eventually I guess they got tired of getting their card locked or r

Medium is terrible, I don't quite understand why people allow a company to monetize their blog for medium's gain. But, that's their choice, not mine.

From the article: "100 demonstrators, many with their faces covered, halted construction and vandalized equipment." that is not a protest, that is crime.

To me, this is not extremely long range, in comparison to a Pactor modem over HF, which can reach over 1000 miles, as I've seen on a sailboat passage from Hawaii to California. It requires more power - 150 watts or so, if I recall corr

syncthing is a great choice, I've been happily using it for 2 or 3 years across Linux, Android, and Windows. I've never had to do anything special to use an SD card on Android.
