I'm well aware of the difference between a set and a list. My point, which was apparently lost, is that the underlying implementation of these structures is the same in PHP.

On the list vs. set... This is an "easy" one if you just stick to the standard CS def, or you just know a language that has a clearly defined library offering that... But in PHP, there's technically no difference between a list and a set:

I can see it now... Introducing facebook background searches! For a low fee of $2499, fb will comb through your prospective employee's postings and alert you of any trouble spots!

Another fan of Flourish. From the site: Please note that Flourish has undergone a good deal of real-world testing, and can generally be considered production ready.

The design profession is light years ahead of programming in that regard... Probably because of its print history. I'm reminded of this great presentation by the mule design guy (NSFW) F*ck you, pay me: http://vimeo.com/22053820

I'd be interested in how those results were obtained, because when I search google with that exact same query, the results look pretty much like bing's results.

I learned this from a very wise man* about why you shouldn't take VC money: "The fundamental reason is that VCs do not have goals that are aligned with the goals of the company founders." While I don't doubt your good intentions... Isn't th

I don't know anyone that actually does 9 to 5... The standard in the midwest is 8 to 5, 1 hour lunch break. So you're really only putting in an extra 30 minutes per day... Minus the dinner you eat... I'm going to go out on a limb and

Back in "the day", users were bombarded with warnings to never give out their email address, lest something bad happen... at one point in time, if you did post your email publicly, it would quickly become unusable as the spam tools &

Those would be pretty much meaningless... Apache can be tweaked in so many different ways depending on what your traffic patterns look like, and how you're processing your requests. MaxClients / KeepAlive / MaxRequestsPerChild / etc... e.g.

Those are mostly valid points/questions... I think some, such as knowing all of the date/time types and their precision really depends on what kind of work you're doing. I've noticed a big difference in interviews between software compani

I think this could be a great route to take. Patrick might be at the point that he has enough marketing work to do though, that he wants to focus on that.

What a memory flashback... I made the decision to focus on low level C++ / Windows right around the time tcl/aolserver was cutting edge. I think my career advice for younger programmers is to stay away from whatever technologies I'm using.

Speaking of rounding errors... I worked telecom billing about 10 years ago... Our system consisted of a couple dozen fairly large C++ programs, and numerous DBF tables. This system was originally written in Clipper(1), which IIRC defines nu

Well, they already root around... That's why they can serve contextual ads. Right now it's "harmless"... But people get a lot more personal in email or google searches than they do on, say, facebook. There's some gold to be mined in there

Yep, they data-mine my email anonymously, but they try to not be evil about it. Eventually, as it happens in all public companies, the "do no evil" people are going to be out , and the "maximize the buck" people are going to be in .
