At least in London, licensed minicabs are supposed to keep records, at least of every journey's date & time, pick up location, destination, and the driver. This is enforced by the Public Carriage Office - a division of TfL, with qu

More or less, but Virgin inherited most of their legacy fibre from the likes of Telewest, NTL / Cable & Wireess, Vidoetron, & Cable London. These days the Virgin name is just about brand recognition.

Love the idea of checking the exit code! Seems I have some modifications to do. On Linux there's usually `aplay` but you'll need play (sox) or mpv etc. to play lossy-compressed audio... a bunch of sounds can be found under &#x

Yes, I'm usually strongly opposed to lossy transcodes, but for portable listening of speech heavy content on a space-limited device, that plays Opus easily, it can be a worthwhile trade-off for many.

If you're doing that you might prefer to output to opus instead. Speech compresses well so you get the benefit of smaller files and have more space for other media. Just replace name.mp3 with ..." -c:a libopus -b:a 24k name.ogg&qu

Whilst it may not have been as popular back then, electronic music actually predates Rock. The Theremin for instance, invented in 1922 was not the first electronic musical instrument, but it is one of the few from that era that still makes

As always with lossy audio, different codecs have different "killer samples", but here are a couple of results from experienced testers that support the assertion that Opus at 64kbps is suitable as a modern replacement for 128kbps

Yes, that's great for videos, but many audio players don't support matroska containers. Putting the opus audio in an ogg container seems to be most effective to get a playable file for most people, so that's my default sugges

Yes, but with opus, that only put's the audio in a .opus container, which isn't as widely compatible as the .ogg container.

The only point in lossy encoding is to save space / bandwidth . Opus excels at getting good sound quality at lower bitrates. If there's a talk or lecture on Youtube that you're about to grab, try the 50kbps Opus version a
