Thumbs up. Acquia has too influence on Drupal. This is exactly why I stuck with Drupal 7 for my side projects, without any plans to migrate to Drupal 8.

I moved to VIM (ideavim, vimperator) completely once I started feeling uncomfortable in the right palm. Reducing the number of keystrokes per days is paramount to productivity increase for me, nowadays.

GNU Parallel sucks. Use xargs when possible and paexec when needing fancy features. BTW, paexec even supports piping next to process invocation.

Coverity Scan is a marketing tool. As for FindBugs integration... The majority of Coverity issues I deal with are labelled as FindBugs issues.

Because the table can change. Imagine showing the first 0..10 rows, deleting the 5th row, then showing 11..20 rows. And what happens if you insert rows while paginating? Iterators aka cursors are the other option.
