I'm in the bay area, and I've chatted about this with many drivers. People USED TO drive for both, but now Lyft has enough network traffic that they're too busy to flip between networks.

yes, this is called sensor fusion, and it would use features from both sensors simultaneously to make decisions.

Yeah, I'm not sure why I would compete with Nvidia on their own turf unless I could do something bigger/better, but Nvidia will always have the advantage of information.

I was using this app but it seemed like it drained the battery so me and my SO got rid of it. :\ It was super useful though, but couldn't get pass the power drainage.

When I first moved to SF I basically was building a FreeBase competitor for entity resolution and ontology building. I think opening up another service like this is required for the future. :)
