I've used Grunt for most projects in the last year, and just tried Gulp for my newest. Gulp seems snappier overall to me for tasks that watch a source directory with coffeescript or sass files in it. Maybe it's grunt-watch vs gulp

See my previous comment[0]. That perf test is testing Backbone's use of jQ vs. native DOM, not jQ v. DOM in isolation. I don't trust that there aren't side effects and interactions in the test. [0]: https://news.yc

If you hand me some code to run, I'll run it. Otherwise my test risks not being the same one that you used to make the claim. The onus is on the person making the claim, not the person trying to verify it.

1. So you've matched a number of good features that Bootstrap has, but you seem to be missing: - Responsive grid control based on browser size (.col-md, -sm, -xsm, -lg) - Nestable grids (apparently) - Fluid container - Offsetting colum

I used to be a proponent of Compass, but I started using Bourbon[0] and Neat[1] and enjoy them more. They don't require a project definition, nor do they provide a utility to compile Sass, they're just a mixin library. And that su

Hmm, I'm wary of a test that involves another framework to test the underlying jQ v. Native DOM performance difference. I'd be much more comfortable eliminating Backbone from the equation. Also, this is just one test - wyuenho

+1 for libsass. I started using Gulp instead of Grunt for a project, and gulp-sass uses libsass. My compilation times are now sometimes sub-millisecond (albeit with only 500 lines of scss spread across 4-5 files).

I disagree with your post. 1. As stephen_g said, Min is nowhere near feature parity with Bootstrap. 2. IIRC, Bootstrap doesn't need jQuery, or its own js if all you want is a css framework. 3. You can make a custom build of Bootstrap t

Care to substantiate your benchmark where you compare jQ1, jQ2, and the native DOM API?

Good move. GTFO is less than ideal not because of the F, but because of the association with the "Tits or GTFO" meme. https://encrypted.google.com/search?hl=en&q=tits+or+GTFO http://knowyourmeme.com

The etymology is inoffensive, but the term itself is still exclusionary by way of "man" also being a gendered term. We are (and should be) more cognisant of these issues these days.

I'm using Colemak, and it's not too difficult to switch to a QWERTY keyboard for textual entry. Usually it takes 5-10 minutes to get it back. I'm definitely less productive for coding away from my ErgoDox. And as to the stick

I bought an ErgoDox[0] keyboard and switched over to a modified Colemak layout with common programming symbols on and above the homerow, triggered with a thumb layer key (think "fn" key on laptops). I think that the symbols are th

Yeah, but then you don't get typography, buttons, tables, or forms. If all you need is a grid, then Simple-Grid is nice.

Care to explain about LightTable starting special and morphing into the mundane? I've checked out a few versions along the development cycle and I wouldn't say that's the case. Also, it's not "foobar", but FUBA

Inevitable and good. I'd much rather the Angular team spend time on features and bugfixes for mainstream browsers than supporting a 54-month-old browser version.

Yeah, it does seem a bit weird to "make an ask" if the ask is the object. As to the "more specific" bit, I think people mean it has a slightly different meaning than a request.

Google "define:request" yields this for a noun: "an act of asking politely or formally for something." An ask isn't "an act of asking", it's the object/subject of a request. So it's not real

An ask is the subject/object of a request. If you were to request a cookie, you would say "Can I have a cookie?". The entire question is the request, where "cookie" is the ask.

I think we'd see sites implement some sort of check to see if their ad scripts loaded properly, and ad/analytic providers enabling this through hooks. There would probably be "good" providers that would get whitelisted.

I don't think I agree with your characterisation of the extension. It's a switchboard that happens to have predefined blacklists focused on ad/privacy, not an adblocker. AdBlockPlus doesn't let me do what this tool does,
