They could have said "only X were sold". Or X sold, where X is a very low" number". Instead, they went with an abitrary low number and declared it to be arbitrary. const ILLUSTRATIVE_LOW_SALES = 30 Seems fine to me.

Reminiscent of the movie The Congress, in which Robin Wright's character, a famous actor, is hustled by a movie studio into giving up her likeness for them to continue making films starring her, in perpetuity.

By coincidence, I visited an Akiya in Nagano yesterday. It's not free, but it's very cheap. I will probably buy it (+60% likelihood). If so, I will spend additional 200% asking price on repairs. Technically, I am resident in Tokyo

I agree with your conclusion, but for a different reason. Having been vegetarian for a long time, I have completely lost the inclination to eat something like meat, even if it isn't meat. I would love to try Impossible, but cannot brin

I might have suggested meeting at the "farm" above the South side of the station. I think it's on the fourth or fifth floor. Of course, theres only one farm in the vicinity and it's small enough that you won't miss

I believe you may discussing at cross-purposes. Presumably like your parent, I believed this was a discussion about the probability that life has originated elsewhere in the galaxy / universe, independently of life on Earth.

That seems to be correct. A partial mitigation of these issues could be high bandwidth / low latency networks just in take-off / landing corridors?

I don't claim to be knowledgeable. It's just a hypothetical question. Surely, it depends on the nature of the emergency. As I understand it, in this Qantas example, the pilots did not need to fly the plane with real-time responses

I feel it's essentially similar to stories such as the Imperial Japanese soldier still fighting WWII into the 1970s on a remote Philippine island. Once started down a path, never stop, never change course. 我慢して!

Since the Enlightenment, it has mainly been our use of language that underpinned humans' purported uniqueness. Prior to that, it was religion. LLMs will be a challenge to the sense of entitlement which derives from this so-called uniqu

O'Callaghan et al. successfully retained the baby - MacKay's method - while discarding the bathwater - his 2008 data. There is nothing in principle to prevent scale-up of floating wind, but there is an awful lot of scaling to do.
