I do like the idea of ground source heat pumps. If we all lived in caves hundreds of feet deep, the temperature would be near perfect year around. In a way, the heat pump “brings the cave to the surface”. There’s something very satisfying a

Note that this is pollution as measured by a few specific pollutants and explicitly _not_ CO2. While this is definitely a problem, if you care about climate change the cars are still a big deal.

I’m guessing you’re new to PG’s writing? His whole thing is drop out, do a startup, work for yourself, work hard.

He might have meant something like “never took a day off beyond the usual weekend/holiday”. Or “even on vacation, I did things like exercise and reading books, so it doesn’t count as taking a day off”. Who knows.

It’s just not written for you. There’s a small percentage of people with whom this attitude resonates. This essay is advice on how to harness these personal tendencies in an effective manner, so it’s natural that it seems foreign to you if

If you read his footnote, he’s talking about how these alarm bells go off on the order of days, not hours, and how taking vacations is good.

Inflation is… complicated. One component of inflation is people’s expectations of future inflation. If prices keep going up, people will start to expect it and won’t hold on to cash for as long, which creates its own feedback loop, etc.

Yeah I think I understand this viewpoint but I fundamentally disagree with it. I would absolutely prefer to live in a world where academics are free to express controversial opinions that would be debated on their own merits, and not shut d

Thank you for your response. In some ways I have a reverse experience: I grew up elsewhere and then moved to Canada (I did get to go to school for a few years). I was blown away by how accepting and open the Canadian society was. Trust me,

If you don’t mind me asking, did you grow up in Canada? When you’re saying that Canada is racist do you have any experiences of living in other countries to compare with? Can you point out specific examples of Canada being a racist country?

This is somewhat true for older (say, 1920s) American houses. There’s some consideration for airflow and making sure that the tree shade on the roof creates a strategic sun heat gradient.

I think this confuses patents with trade secrets. You only patent something that’s easy to observe and copy, and the patent is a public record that you have some temporary exclusive rights to the invention (well at least in theory. The worl
