If this article is indicative of the content of his speeches (purposely misunderstanding tax policy and misleading with math), then I'm relieved that he intends not to speak publicly.

Obama cannot do anything about tax rates -- the 2001 congress passed a temporary tax cut which Bush signed. Whatever you think about the tax-rates going up was decided 10 years ago to dodge CBO projections of cost by Bush and that congress

This old Joel Spolsky article gives an argument to why that is: http://www.joelonsoftware.com/articles/FindingGreatDeveloper... If you believe that good programmers are more likely to be offered a job than bad ones, it pretty much flows f

The GoF book is one pattern language among many. They were concerned with OO design that is used in a class of programs they had experience with -- basically GUI programs with runtime extension, and with a bias towards programs that create

I ask OO design questions. Experience with design patterns is fairly evident in answers to these questions, and sometimes that's good and sometimes it's bad.

I saw some new Xbox thing at Gamestop this weekend that looked cool: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/kinect -- uses cameras for gameplay in a wii-like way.

The button becomes giant when I click it. Works if you don't click the button (just click the image). I volunteer on a lot of small campaigns (state level) -- we can buy voter list in MA, but that only has name, address -- no phone number.

Live Demo link not working on Chrome on Mac. Quickly just wanted to see how the data (and phone numbers get in). Down ballot races can buy voter lists, but not easily obtain phone-numbers. Do you do lookup?

The best player that stays knows that they won't get severance in they are fired, so there is no incentive to stay if it seems like layoffs are coming again (or if they just get an offer).

Right, but they match words against words more or less. This matches even if the video is degraded, cropped, etc. They have figured out how to apply stemming concepts to video and audio.

Use the kill-flash extension for Chrome. It takes off flash elements and replaces them with a zone to click on if you want to bring it back. It has a whitelist that you can use for sites that you want flash on by default.

Cisco is currently using something like "redefining LOL" in their ads -- they definitely target B2B, so if it's not too edgy for Cisco, then I can't see it alienating "ordinary" customers. In fact, it's evidence that it's not edgy enough t

Duck Duck Go has a lot of perl in it, and it's a somewhat trendy discussion topic on HN. I think most of the reason we don't care is because DDG's strengths have nothing to do with Perl -- except for maybe how easy it is to deploy/keep runn

Crunchbase isn't only startups (my employer is there, and we're not a startup) and not all startups raise money (we were once a startup, but were bootstrapped). I would characterize the companies in Crunchbase as just tech companies.
