Happily their sponsors can't read the data on who watched their ad segment. While my TV's youtube app can't be helped, on the desktop I use sponsorblock which is a surprisingly effective solution. I strongly recommend it.

I wondered when I'd see a mention of RSPSs on here. God what an excellent time of my life that was. Running a server with my brother got me into programming and tech and was such an absolute pleasure. We had the good fortune of never b

I sometimes wonder what the value of lines like this are. Should't the reader be convinced of the magnitude of the find by the facts and the way they're presented, themselves, without having to throw some distant third party in fo

I'd argue the opposite. The price of living rose to meet the means of the people who lived there. People in tech are highly paid because it is a workers' market where talent and special education and skills are generally required.

Thanks for the update, I'll have to plunge back into research this year for a decent software. That's too bad, I was happy using their service and always donated.

This is a bit of a tangent, but I think often of how wrong it is that we allow indoor marijuana production in places like Canada and the Western USA where it's legal. What a horrible waste of energy.

IF you catch COVID non-vaccinated I'm fairly sure you remain sick and contagious for a far longer duration. In the case (like most) where you're asymptomatic, you are thus risking other people catch it more than you would be if yo

We talk often on this forum of how innaccessible giants like Google and Amazon are for the little guy. I thus found this point particularly interesting: >"Attempts to contact the vendor through regular support channels were unsucces

Well written article, I learned a lot. I wasn't a huge fan of how little they espoused the actual positive side of the site, what continues to bring me and many of you back. The flaming and dramatic views of some are noise to me, the g

I used Vivaldi for almost two years before switching back to Firefox. I loved the amount of customization you are able to do through the GUI. I miss that a bit in Firefox but after Firefox and their great leap forward in speed won me back a

Let's make sure we use the right terminology, especially on a site like HN. People love conspiracy THEORIES. There are huge conspiracies going on right now, doubtless. There are also THEORIES of conspiracies which are downright ridicul

I've worked a 14-day-on-14-off schedule for about 3 years now and what I've realized is that we adjust to it no matter what. I'm still productive even though they are 12 hour days. I don't think resistance to alternate w

I wouldn't necessarily be against this but it would have to be filtered for certain technologies and even then it gets messy. Perhaps some internal SEO management, or newer relevant thread linking system would be better. Some technolog

I completely agree here. In "Think Fast and Slow" the author talks about how much more productive and clear his time was when he took his thinking time and walked for it.

It's a tad conspiratorial, but I suspect there was a concerted effort by media to muddy down the impacts of future watergate-level scandals by highlighting a lot of minor "gates". Already I feel tempted to roll my eyes each t
