I agree, it's not really the language's fault. I'm involved with more than one application that's over a decade old, so I understand what happens. My point is that a lot of the things still running around in ColdFusion

You wouldn't. I'm just observing that none of the CF I've had to deal with is healthy - it's all a mess they want to replace. Probably poor wording in my prior comment that was hard to parse as intended, apologies.

All the ColdFusion code I've ran into still exists because it's too rotten of a mess to be replaced. It tends to be very procedural code with lots of "libraries" that rely on side-effects rather than abstraction. The

Sadly there's more ColdFusion running around to this day than you'd like to think, managing more important data than it should be. It's frightening.

Exactly this. I think dev shops are fairly stratified into quality levels. "fix it now and clean it up later" works in a certain class of shop, and that's great. But there's a huge swath of dev shops that never pay a

The book is probably a case of somebody working on it to make a handful of copies to satisfy somebody's ego. Selling more copies is just gravy.

Actually that kind of backlash isn't a problem in a machine built like this. The tension of the chain against the sprocket is always pulling in the same direction around the sprocket. Even when the sprocket reverses direction, the ch

Mostly true but not quite. The forces on the chains are actually higher when the chains are "shorter" and the router is higher up. The farther from vertical the chains are, the more horizontal tension there is on top of the ver

Most of the work done on CNC routers is 2-axis anyway. Or 2-axis with just a couple z-heights, which can be accommodated by changing the router depth by hand. Ultimately it's made to cut up plywood, not sculpt things. Like a sized-u

They say 1/64in/0.4mm precision or better. I'm sure they can lift it up. This kind of mechanism isn't exactly new - but using it on a router is fairly new. There's a lot of projects with pen plotters built in this

Not necessarily. Often, large commercial electric consumers pay less per kilowatt than you'd pay at home.

There's also a lot to be said for having the gear to be able to coordinate with friends/family until normal comms are restored for non-responders. Just because you aren't coordinate the "real" help doesn't mean

The tests are not as hard as the study guide would make you believe. And frankly (at least when I took them a few years ago) were not put together very well. I wasn't working through practice test apps very long before I picked up a

Try reading the book. The author is a journalist who set out to build a case against guns and this book holds the facts he found. He came into it with a bias but still ended up with the opposite book from his intentions, due to honest rese

ProxyCommand is simpler to setup if you have a new enough ssh that -W is available. You can do "ProxyCommand ssh gateway -W real_host:22" to go direct to real_host.

I use Trello for this. I have a board with a few lists, each with a different category of idea on it. When I get a new idea, I add a card for it. As I develop the idea, I add to the card. At some point I either archive the card out, or I
