Get Old World! Made by Civ IV's lead dev, Christopher Tin soundtrack, great mechanics, and a team that's still dedicated to improving the game years after release. It's my favourite 4X of all time, right besides Alpha Centaur

That particular series was presented with very heavy emphasis on how "accurate" it was to real events, though, and many, many people thought it a documentary.

Yes, publishers have not proven to be particularly civic-minded in the past. I'm having a hard time picking who to root for, but it's probably slightly better to have a world of many cartels than a single one - and it gives a chan

A 13.5 oz box of Kellogg's frosted flakes is $11 at Walmarts. A BIGGER box of 16.5oz is $4.4 in Tesco in the UK, and store brand is $1.25. Salaries are higher on average in the US, but the minimum wage that will include many in the sup

Amazon has publishers over a barrel - it makes up a large proportion of book sales, but it's so aggressive in negotiations that publishers hardly make any profit at all. They hate Amazon like a shopkeeper hates the local racketeers ext

I see what you mean, difference in floating time expectations between remote vs in-person appointments. A case of choosing your default poison, I guess. Thanks for pointing it out.

The point is that it's far safer to assume that an unspecified time zone means 'local time wherever I am at the time of the appointment' than not. If I'm flying to Japan and meeting someone at 7pm, I'm going to make

I'm in awe that in 2024 the first introduction to programming can be a turtle in Python, just like it was in 1982 when someone came to my primary school to show everyone a turtle in Logo.

It's trivial to consider any event that did not specify a time zone to happen at local time, wherever that is, and not change its time when the phone's zone changes. Business software will set a zone, self-entered or casual appoin

What? No. The Napoleonic Code (Code Napoléon) is for civil law in contrast to criminal law. The penal code promulgated under Napoleon is called... the Penal Code, and is not the one that was adopted across Europe. https://en.wiki

The Napoleonic Code is a civil code, not penal, so presumption of innocence is not part of it. Regardless, all European countries have presumption of innocence, except in very specific cases (like England's libel law).

A talk by Brian Eno convinced me that there is no meaningful difference between the two, and I've yet to see a definition of art that does not end up in self-contradiction if we try to make the distinction.
