"Won't support" is wrong, this is explicitly on the roadmap, they've stated that multiple times. "Doesn't currently support" would be more accurate. For the technical aspects, secure cloud backups are goin

When did you last try it? Startup speed of Signal-Desktop has been much improved in recent months, like, by an order of magnitude. Maybe give it another shot.

Have you given WhatsApp notification permissions? Your comparison to Windows is probably more appropriate than you think. When is the last time Windows crashed on you (and it wasn't a dodgy third-party driver that caused it)? It works

Yeah you're right, "pe1" shows up in many of their hostnames with different states in the name. And their looking glass shows a bunch of hops within Australia, none of which show up when I do a traceroute.

From my university network in Germany, I seem to get a direct London → Perth link and a total latency of 278ms. I couldn't find any information about a direct fiber between London and Australia, though there is one from London to Singa

Does https://www.debian.org/releases/stable/amd64/apds03.en.html fit the bill for you? It's a bit outdated (does anyone still use lilo? It also talks of MBRs and grub-pc instead of grub-efi) and an updat

That’s hilariously wrong, the server source code is at https://github.com/signalapp/Signal-Server . How can you make such a claim in good faith when it’s so absolutely trivial to refute?

10nm Intel laptops have been on the market for at least six months now, for example in the XPS 13 2-in-1. The new MacBook Air and Pro 13 also ship with Intel 10nm CPUs. While Intel had a lot of trouble getting 10nm production to work and ar

That seems like a strange gripe, why would I care as a user whether configuration is stored in dconf or some config file? And even if I cared, why would that make me choose a different desktop environment? If those are your priorities, then

I think it was the 2nd gen that had the awful touch strip (if you haven't seen it, think of it as a shitty implementation of the touch bar). I have the 5th gen (2017) and it's a fantastic machine that works really well with Linux.

That's a dishonest argument and you know it. The entire home directories thing is aimed at enterprises, and nobody wants to enable it for individuals' machines. Poettering said as much in the talk where he presented it. It would b

I don't think you understand how these routing algorithms work. Contraction Hierarchies, Customizable Route Planning, Transit Node Routing, etc are all guaranteed to give you the same result as a Dijkstra search. They just exploit pr

I'd be very concerned if download size wouldn't scale with the size of the map, so I'm not quite sure what your point is. Nobody uses lookup tables for routing (that would require quadratic space to store). If you really want

Customizable Contraction Hierarchies go a long way towards solving that, they're quite similar to CRP with regards to both customization and query time. Also, route quality isn't part of the trade-off: all of these methods are exa

That paper is old and definitely not what Google Maps actually uses. Techniques which people actually use (mostly Contraction hierarchies and CRP) are much more compact than what you describe. Routing isn't just a table lookup. Google

Netflix is not serving streams through AWS. They use AWS for everything except serving streams. They're spending around 15 billion per year on content, bandwidth costs are far lower than that.

It's not Netflix that can't handle the load, though. It's your ISP. If there's anyone to be angry with, it's them.
