That ( "They are listening, filming and tracking every single thing you do near that device" ) is a claim you're going to have to substantiate. Don't spread such rumours unless you can back them up.

Don't know about the US but here in Germany Ikea has an online store, too. Shipping for non-giant non-superheavy things is 3.90€ so pretty okay. They're not as fast as Amazon, though.

Yeah of course. I'm just trying to salvage the idea (door-to-door in a car, high speed). Seems like a train for cars would be the solution. Not that it would be particularly efficient, but not as terrible as 200mph cars.

This "200+ mph self-driving cars" thing gets repeated a lot on HN but I've never seen anything to suggest that it would be remotely fuel-efficient. There is a reason why today's high-speed rail rarely exceeds 200mph

It's against the guidelines. They are very explicit about such things: Be civil. Don't say things you wouldn't say in a face-to-face conversation. Avoid gratuitous negativity. When disagreeing, please reply to the argument i

Please don't use such stark language on HN. There's a much friendlier way of saying that, something along the lines of "I think you misunderstood the author's concerns".

That's not an automatism nor inevitable, though. I don't have either of these apps on my phone. And both iOS and now Android have these dynamic permission dialogs where you can refuse access to your contacts. It may be inconvenien

Why would anyone get your contacts if you sync them via your own CarDav server? You don't need to sync them to iCloud / Siri on iOS, and you can use non-Google Android phones.

I concur, el-get is quite nice and can install/manage packages from a wide variety of sources, sort of like Arch's AUR. It's at https://github.com/dimitri/el-get .

Lots of people buy used phones. If you install a bunch of apps and set a photo of your dog (or a random internet dog) or kid as the background, it probably wouldn't be all that suspicious.

You're allowed to go as fast as you safely can on some of our roads, but even on those the flow of traffic is maybe at 130-140 km/h (80-90 mph). Sustaining 200km/h in a car is very hard (extreme focus is required) and quite
