What was the point of that link? It shows that even the government assumed they were asking for funding but they were trying to sell fully-developed machines, as I said.

I may be mistaken, but I don't think they ever sought "funding". In fact, they had been offered this by Octave Chanute but declined because they did not want to quit their regular business of selling bicycles. They actually t

They did reciprocate. They freely shared their discoveries with Octave Chanute and spoke about their earlier but still important discoveries at an aeronautics conference Chanute invited them to. It is amazing what they had to invent and dis

I am really surprised to see Jamison being mentioned here as if he were a household name. I remember him from the Invention Studio at Georgia Tech.

well, momentum is defined as the product of mass and velocity. movement implies velocity, and we are not talking about massless things here, so yes, movement implies momentum.

though less technical, "movement" implies "momentum", no? In the person + bike system, the brake action would result in internal forces. I don't see how this system could translate.

how does conservation of linear momentum apply? edit: this question was asked when the parent comment claimed that this machine could "generate linear momentum" from the wheels.

It seems this was a popular hack at one time. I hope this no longer happens. Anyway it's great that you were able to "shake it off", so to speak.

Yeah so the only reason you wouldn't use 'using' is when you can't :) Modern c++ is awesome. I definitely appreciate being able use c++14 where I work (as well as 'pragma once'). I really look forward to being

"Using" also allows you to have templated aliases, unlike typedefs. There's really no reason to use typedefs.

I get the feeling that companies like Amazon and Apple purposefully try to hide as much as possible/tolerable the fact that you are subscribed to something (specifically, Apple apps and Amazon's Audible). I've spent tens if n

It is helpful to realize the trigonometry of flight. Wings leverage a horizontal force (thrust) to get a larger vertical force (lift). Freestream momentum is deflected some net angle by a wing. If you take a horizontal vector and tilt it,

Thank you for your input. I am aware of the relatively new law change, and I should have mentioned it in the question (I edited it so that it is now). It is actually the reason I am asking. If we were still first-to-invent, I would go ahead

Thank you for submitting this article! I have always heard that FORTRAN is faster and commonly used in Aerospace, and I am glad to finally know why, as well as how to bridge the performance gap.

Yeah, the only problem with automation was boundary condition specification. I guess I could use shell scripts to infer the list of boundary points for every boundary condition, given I knew in what order the points in the mesh were created
