What strikes me as incredible is that 44% of Democrats agreed with the original statement. I'm not an American, but isn't that totally incompatible with the party's ideals? EDIT: The fact that the vast majority of them agreed

Thanks, strangely enough this comment made me read more about D and I'm genuinely excited about getting into this language now

Also thanks for the reference to Erin Catto's talk, need to check it out. Maybe physics engines aren't magic after all.

I wasn't able to hear a difference on that website, but I tried some songs on my computer and there was audible hissing in some parts (it mostly sounded great to me, though). All that was gone at 48kbps, though. It's kind of crazy

If that were to happen, this hack would be a blessing for many, many people who definitely would not have held on to their bitcoins until this current all-time high price. Not commenting on what is right here, I just thought it's kind

I think you misunderstood the OP (or maybe I have?) - it wasn't about parallelism, just about that one use of a comparison inside the addition. I showed that CPUs don't need to generate conditional jumps for that, that's all.

It is. You can use the `setl` instruction to conditionally set a register depending on whether the previous `cmp` was less. Then, you simply do an `add` with the produced value, which is either 0 or 1. EDIT: You can see this here https:&#x

I'd probably try to convert the RGB to HSV and then sanitize the values a bit. Get rid of too flashy or too unsaturated colors.

Thanks. That's what I meant with deleting "equivalent entries", I was wondering if there are cases where that would still be a net gain. But it makes sense that there are more specialized versions for such things. PS I don&#x

That sounds quite horrible - today was very eye-opening on why people almost never pack structs tightly, thank you.

Brilliant! I never anticipated Bloom filters would be so simple. What comes to my mind is that for "forgetful" Bloom filters, one could remove a hash from the table, also erasing all equivalent entries from the memory. Is this a u

You mean that it reads the values into single byte registers and assembles those back into the value you want?

I just wanted to say thanks - I could never get into vanilla Emacs but after about an hour of playing around with Spacemacs I have to say it's amazing. It's incredible what a few convenience features (and of course, familiar keybi

Lua's metatables are very powerful, and there's actually a tiny implementation of "strict mode" for Lua [1]. I do agree that static checks like these would help the language for serious applications. I recently got back

The output is the same as just "cal" for me, so I had to see what it's about: It puts Monday as the first day of the week. I guess that is because I use the German date locale. Seems that the US uses Sunday as the first day o

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to perform well in Firefox. Both on my Windows desktop and Linux laptop I get about 2 FPS, whereas it's perfectly smooth in Chrome on both. Really fun, though!

As a lot of people have mentioned Lua ITT, there's a library called Pluto[1] which can serialize coroutine states. It was used in the game Fable to store quest statuses[2]. [1]: http://lua-users.org/wiki/PlutoLibra

A nitpick I had with SDL2 is the inability to render while the window is being resized. There is a rather awkward hack around this on Stack Overflow[1], which involves a callback function that has to call right into your custom rendering ro

Not currently. I think it can be largely attributed to header files, for which we currently have no solution in modern C++. Think about what your code would look like if you expanded all #includes of a single file, each containing entire cl

I'm not disagreeing with you - I actually agree that this is a big problem with the system, but I believe most outsiders have no idea that there is any phonetic connection between the characters.

There are so-called phono-semantic compound characters [1] which consist of two other characters, a part indicating its meaning, and one part indicating its reading. This has helped me tremendously while memorizing the readings of Japanese
