The bulk of the roof can be assumed to be oriented to the sky, or it wouldn't get much sun and be of no concern. So it will radiate towards the sky mostly. The infrared radiation will indeed go out in all directions. The way I understo

If these drones act autonomously there is no radio link that could be detected or jammed. That makes them much harder to fight. Just recently I read how decoys are deployed to attract enemy missiles in Ukraine. I guess such drones can be fo

I never report anything to Google. They don't give back. When I try to report mail spam from their network they want me to fill out a form instead of reading the abuse mail they got.

To me it was weird in a list of things "to look out for". When somebody makes those threats, the jig is up. But of course, retrospectively, it may help to classify. So yea, I get now why it's on the list.

I was interested in that, but unless I missed it, it doesn't show the currently playing track. And no tracklist anywhere.

An argument can be made that we don't expect the car to speed up significantly anymore. But the steering is haphazard. And the terrain is getting steeper. Some people say they're working on brakes.

As long as the model doesn't know about words, and finds letter sequences that correspond to words, we can conclude that it found actual writing.

I wondered about that. My understanding is that the models were trained to look for letter shapes, not words. And that the models couldn't produce known words unless they were trained on the language. If it wasn't trained on a sub

Yea, the tone of "never do this" felt quite extreme. I regularily eat stuff past the date on the label. A blanket rule to not do that will just make me ignore the whole article.

If I were to draw that, there's a few ways this could be fair use. Or simply unlicensed without a problem if I share it privately. I don't see how it's fair use when a company provides these stickers in such a broad manner. P

That is hilarious! I've never been so tempted to use Facebook :-) When will this feature be added on Hacker News? Right after they implement emojis I do hope! I wonder how Facebook reasons they're not violating copyright here.

Yea there may be a shift in usage hidden in those numbers. As this article laments, we can't use ngrams to measure the develpment of usage between said, replied, and retorted.

The way I read it, the article was a rant about how people shouldn't be using ngrams to prove things.

On the one hand, if I query GPT-4, it does associate "special military operation" with Russia's actions in Ukraine. However, it does not reference any escalation beyond Donbas and Crimea. The generated text stays within well

Well a single hit yes, that could be explained as coincidence. But the generated text is too long and too close to reality. In Jan 2022 the meaning of "special operation" was not a war. So if the cutoff were complete it would'
