I'm surprised, sad. Maybe the last of the big directors, certainly my favorite. Here's Lynch making quinoa https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uSP-ewdJYJc&ab_channel=scayn...

Yes for me it's a tie between Mulholland Drive and Lost Highway. I also prefer Mulholland drive. The news makes me sad, I feel like I've lost a friend, even though I never met Lynch.

I couldn't agree more. More than 90% of the children's books you find in a bookshop (in Germany at least, but I imagine it's similar elsewhere) are terrible: terrible writing, badly rhymed, cheap computer-aided illustrations,

It's been a long time coming. It's ridiculous that there wasn't a direct rail connection between the two most important EU capitals yet.

Same for me. 1,000 followers and barely any engagement. I swear it used to be different. My posts weren't any less dumb years ago, but I used to at least get a few replies and likes, even retweets.

If you start the project with good hygiene and clear guidelines (no mutable global state), it's 100% doable. AFAIK JUnit and other test runners don't do any process isolation for unit tests. Why is JavaScript so different?

A young project and a small team (3 months, 3 developers). We're working with a relational db, and we're DELETE FROM all tables that we use at the beginning of each test. That's fast enough so far. Process isolation doesn

Yes we're using the built-in test runner and it's much better than jest. Jest is full of unneeded magic (= complexity), whereas node:test is straightforward and has a better design. Highly recommended. You can turn off process iso

Yes, same with node:test https://nodejs.org/api/test.html It's an excellent test runner and much, much faster than the others, especially if you set the "isolation" flag to "none".

I'm part of the wave of users who migrated to bluesky last week. I have to say I really like it so far, which surprised me a bit given that I had been underwhelmed by mastodon before. I already spend more time in bluesky than in twitte

IndexedDB transactions give guarantees about atomicity but not about isolation. Note that the word "isolation" doesn't appear in the spec https://w3c.github.io/IndexedDB/

Besides what sibling has written, write access to IndexedDB also often needs to be guarded by a mutex https://gist.github.com/pesterhazy/4de96193af89a6dd5ce682ce2...

I don't know about Golang but I swear I've seen this before as well - clients holding on to an old IP address without ever re-resolving the domain name. It makes me wary of using DNS for load balancing or blue-green deployments. I

Thanks! From my perspective, being able to pull pglite into the same golang process is preferable - faster, less IPC complexity, no risk of leaving lingering state. Making postgres an in-process dependency is much of the appeal of pglite fo

PGLite is amazing for integration testing of queries against a real in-memory db. Is it possible to use PGLite for that purpose in non-JS environments, like e.g. golang?

This or some other way of CAS would enable so many useful applications, like a simple mutex based on an S3 object.

Martin (and the other contributors to his blog) continue to write insightfully about things that matter. I'm impressed with his continued devotion to topics like Continuous Integration, testing and refactoring.

OMG a VC in Venice. Do you have an actual office there? I'm jealous. Venice was the original Silicon Valley. Aldus Manutius's print shop is an example of Venetian high tech. A good proportion of Europe's books were printed in
