It's certainly a lot more satisfying than asking Reddit most of the time, whether you are getting the truth or not. I don't know how many times I've posted a question on reddit, not necessarily about something psychological o

The M3 air has no fan either, which is a big reason I bought it, as I record acoustic music and having no fan is the best.

This is a fun article. As a current Principal at MSFT I've never seen these type of questions being asked in interviews. I don't think it's fair or accurate to say "If you’re an experienced programmer, you already know h

I feel all of these things too. I'm 42 and started working right out of high school. Unfortunately I was dumb, didn't save money or pursue high earnings until 6 years ago when I joined big tech. I live in HCOL area, and realistica

Don't you need to spend 5-10 thousand USD to run these models that are "as good" as frontier models from 6-12 months ago? I haven't seen a convincing breakdown for ROI of running your own coding models. Especially agains

650/month is incredible. My mortgage payment is almost eight thousand dollars.

It's also really nice to just do some work outside instead of staring at a screen . I really enjoy mowing my huge lawn, doing some light landscaping stuff. My wife and daughter pick weeds for hours and it really centers them.

I don't think the data supports this at all. Home prices have doubled here since 2014. We are having a modest dip right now.

This might be an unpopular thing to do, but lately I've been literally having claude/chatgpt write books for my personal consumption: things to brush up interview skills, python, system design, and even agentic coding. I've a

I assume it is just meant to imply light-weightness, either in the application itself or making you feel as though you can float / fly .

Wonderful piece. I feel this so acutely as a 42yo father and tech worker. It's hard to even keep up with my own siblings. I see my some of my "best friends" once a year if that. Sending the occasional text and stupid memes ba

TIL you can run OpenBSD on apple silicon. With how much effort has gone into Asahi Linux, I'm surprised.

Most of the article makese sense but what is this supposed to mean? "Native Rust binaries are hostile to serverless runtimes" . I don't think that is true.

I have such a love/hate with this band. They have some great songs. Great musicians. John Frusciante is one of my favorite guitarists. But they are such cheeseballs, and in the case of Anthony Kiedes, pretty creepy.

I took the last week and a half off work. I've been reading a great book - "Street of Crocodiles" by Bruno Schulz. After six years at the same company, I started realizing I might be ready for a move, but I'm not intervi

Walking at a regular pace helps slow my brain down so that I can think more effectively. My favorite hobby right now is hour-long walks with my kindle (I walk in places where there are very long uninterrupted stretches). When I read at home

This last week was one of my most challenging weeks in my ~20 year work life. I work in big tech, but am a relative latecomer to it (6 years). I'm a manager, and someone who was a very senior IC, a mentor, and work friend of mine, beca

Instagram has something like this where it shows you "least interacted with". It seems broken to me though, as it showed me people who I do interact with.

Are there local models that are anywhere near as good at coding as opus 4.6?

I've had excellent luck using Claude Code to generate "mermaid diagrams" for me, and convert them to .png format headlessly using mmdc/puppeteer. Really helped me out with an engineering proposal I just finished. In past

Agreed. Unless this really helps people somehow make better trading decisions than existing tools, the vast majority of them are probably still better off index investing.

Yeah, it’s not a great name. But it originates from the government. When somebody without a security clearance needs to go to a secure area, they must be escorted by somebody.
