I don't run Emacs as a server because it freezes occasionally and it's very painful to have a couple dozen windows in eight workspaces go down. If I could rely on Emacs never freezing, I'd be happy to run it as a server.

You'd tax global profit based on the local revenue fraction. So if the corporation has global profits of 1M and the revenue is 90% in country A and 10% in country B, then country A taxes 0.9M of profit and country B taxes 0.1M of profi

There's probably a trademark / misrepresentation / self image rights angle that could be argued, same as with say faces. That wouldn't seem unfair to me. It should require a lot more than just pitch similarity imo.

I haven't heard AC's speech, but the description sounds a bit like the way Donald the Duck talks.

The hardware could easily be designed so that whenever the light is turned on, it cannot be turned off for a second or w/e. Seems like an obvious solution.

There is a much more effective way to prevent people from buying more than they need... limit sales to x items per buyer, or rationing. The only thing rising costs ensure is that people without money don't get anything.

I write mostly C++ and Scheme and last year I wrote my first piece of code in modern Fortran (I had some experience porting/integrating old F77 libs). It's trivial to interface with C and lets you do numeric stuff immediately and

I build Guile on the Mac regularly. I need to pass the paths to these 4 libraries to configure: libgmp, libunistring, libiconv, and libreadline. The libraries themselves I get from MacPorts. Then make check && make install. Doesn&#x

I've been a Guile user since 2001 or 2002 and all these years it's been a workhorse for me. Even before there was a compiler or before the compiler started getting better, Guile was a solid choice for embedding. Each of the altern

That's why I put the speed in quotes. I get about 900 Mbps both ways on my computer that has only a 1 Gbps port.

I pay about that for ‘10 Gbps’ in CH. I don't even have a machine with a 10 Gbps port, but there isn't anything cheaper here that makes sense.

Hand counting of paper ballots is a highly parallel process that can be done quickly at any scale. The only reason to introduce counting machines is so that someone can extract money from it.

A solution would be to give you a fixed space, then make the font smaller or narrower as you write more. It's a softer limit and it accommodates CJK because usually those characters are bigger.

I was in the UK a few months ago for a meeting and they had a plate of sorts in the room with a list of company guidelines. One of them was ‘Everybody sells’. It seems obvious but I'd never seen it put so starkly.
