There’s plenty of judgement calls that will always need to be made close to home plate so I don’t think the home plate ump is ever going away

Umps aren’t consistent tho and because of the way seniority works, the worst umps (the older ones) get the jobs in the playoffs and World Series. If you want a human element this is just using it as a challenge system. So the players have t

What an absurd straw man. Moving the needle away from “large portions of the population are a few paychecks away from being homeless” does not constitute “the devil’s playground”. Where’s all of the articles that HN loves about kids these d

It’s not uncommon to require clients to develop a relationship with the retailer before they’re allowed to buy the more exclusive goods. It’s not the same as the licensing analogy but it’s close. Imagine needing to spend 300% of an item’s c

Dying from a crash doesn't mean you don't put pressure on social services. You could die at the scene (first responders and paramedics still), on the way to the hospital, upon arrival, or hours or even days after. This does nothin

A single k8s cluster spanning multiple datacenters feels mind boggling to me. I know it's not exactly uncommon for HA even if you just have a little one in your cloud provider of choice but I'm sure it's a totally different b

I also hate how the seller's pages are basically useless as well. I want to buy something from a specific brand and going to that page I can't find more than half of their product list on their own seller page.

With the monetary and opportunity cost of renting (hassle, unpredictability, risk) it makes sense very very quickly to just own an ICE car for the predictable edge cases. Have you rented a car recently? It’s a nightmare half the time. In en

It’s not confusion it’s a comparison. The other commenter is trying to highlight Musk’s cognitive dissonance. On the one hand, he wants to support “free speech” on his platform (being able to say what you want _publicly_ and not get fired).

Is there any real benefit to taking ~$160k and 1% as a “founding” engineer? We’re not even close to series C yet but it’s starting to feel like I need to be more aggressive about compensation or a role change. If you don’t become a +$100mm

You see why this is horrific UX and people have good reason to complain about it tho right? You can't expect customers to go into this as battle-hardened as their opponent.

The fact that this comment chain is about 7 deep trying to figure out whether the customer was given enough notice or not I think is also evidence that Google has a terrible UX for this anyway. If your data is going to be deleted, it should
