Smalltalk was very consciously, and conscientiously, designed for humans.

I think "for humans" is just intended to convey that the language and environment are based on research into human cognitive traits: how we think and learn.

If there was a truly-good cloud IDE for Java I would buy a chrome book. When I think of the tens of thousands of dollars I've spent on compute hardware over the years I want to cry.

Yeah, my personal experience with teens is that they are anxious and full of self-doubt. I certainly don't see an excess of self-esteem. I wonder how much hard-science there is on the harmfulness of praise

Yeah, it's the curse of Java that it takes longer to get something working, but it more than makes up the time in maintenance. No one can think far enough ahead to care about maintenance.

Is it me, or is making this about "firing" a bit of slight-of-hand. Thiel is a partner, not an employee. Choosing who to partner with isn't the same as firing an employee. If YC continues to partner with Thiel, everything the

LGPL is not similar in one important way. Any reference to GPL in a license scares the shit out of corporate managers and lawyers when it's attached to something in their proprietary code. That discourages business use and adoption, sa
