I alluded to it in a separate comment but the problem I have here is that it is really hard to get through to them on this too. Upskilling a junior dev required you spend time in the code and sharing knowledge, doing pairing and such like.

It’s like a linter with conflicting rules (can’t use tabs, rewrite to spaces; can’t use spaces, rewrite to tabs). Something that runs itself in circles and can also block a change unless the comment is resolved simply adds noise, and a bot

I have no problem accepting the odd comment that actually highlights a flaw and dismissing the rest, because I can use discretion and have an understanding of what it has pointed out and if it’s legit. The dread is explaining this to someon

I have the opposite problem where I can only get HyperOptic. Not even OpenReach stuff. No problem with bandwidth but zero price competition, and 5G broadband isn’t viable either. Going from £70/mo for gigabit to £65/mo for 500mb i

Older versions of MacOS had an elegance to them. It’s lost some of that over the years. The overall trend towards minimalism has ironed out much of what made it unique and it hasn’t always succeeded in improving UX. Even Liquid Glass and th

Someone’s gonna think about wiring all this up to Linear or Jira, and there’ll be a whole new set of vulnerabilities created from malicious bug reports.

You can do prompt injection through versions. The LLM would go back to GitHub in its endless attempt to people please, but dependency managers would ignore it for being invalid.

Out of curiosity, how do you become ‘exceedingly good’ at serving static HTML? By all accounts, they’ve centralised the delivery of this static HTML at several layers of the network stack, and you’re not getting static HTML anymore because

I remember what it was like before tabs, when there was that Multi Document Interface (something like that) instead, so you had the main parent window but then each page was its own window within it that you could resize, minimise, maximise

The lack of reciprocation is a tough one. I think it also helps sometimes to understand that not everyone is good at being the mother goose or the facilitator, especially if someone else is already good at doing it, and it's not becaus

Letting people learn the hard way is a risky endeavour because you have to trust they’re aware of themselves, and they’re not coasting on your support. Gotta accept that a likely outcome is that they do fail and they don’t learn and you hav

It stands to reason that if someone makes an argument you can make a strawman against it. In this thread, a manager is compared to earthquakes, ratpoison and gravity… which has fuck all to do with management. Come on…just say if you don’t l

Yes. It stands to reason that if a manager can demotivate you, then they must be able to do the opposite. Both building the vibe and killing it can achieve that in terms of extrinsic motivation, culture, the psychological contract, and so o

Still using CircleCI. I do not love YAML at all, in fact I hate it because it's basically a 1980s text preprocessor on steroids and with dependency management. Too much logic applied to config that depends on implicit syntax and unintu
