I think that companies have to make a case for supporting a visa because of not being able to hire someone similarly qualified who is a citizen or permanent resident. And having a formal degree may be part of that equation.

It would be interesting to look at the data for how many 1, 2, and 3 word subject lines there are over time. Maybe fewer "Hello" or "Thank you" subject lines as more people got used to the idea that it's good to be

Well they don't. Most of the stations don't have elevators at all. That's why I have to take taxis in London instead of using the underground.

I used to have to try to get cabs an hour or more before going to a doctors' appointment. Cabs would just not show up and I'd have to call the dispatcher over and over. Dispatchers would tell me straight out that they wouldn'

That area of Mexico being the Yucatan coast, it's not known for recent incredible violence or cartel activity. It's pretty quiet since the country and region are pushing the Maya Rivera as a safe tourist destination.

Oh wow! This happened to me just recently; I was in Akumal and Tulum and only used a couple of different cash machines. My card info was stolen and then used in Mexico and Florida for withdrawals.

Here a bit late but I wanted to mention at least one amazing and beautiful project that (at least partly!) arose from Double Union members' work. BubbleSort - zines about computer science. Have a look! They are more like gorgeous tiny

I agree with this, it was a good experience to help start a new space with a new approach, AND still love and support the other (any-gender) hackerspace I've been involved with! It doesn't really have to be a dichotomy - in fact t

I remember really loving her SXSWi keynote some years ago on human-computer interaction. There was a big overflow room because her talk was standing room only. I took away from that the conviction that we shouldn't design software for

Thank you for mentioning Noirin's work with digital rights and other organizations. I didn't know about their work as a medic. Thank you also for mentioning their family's thoughts.

This is sad for us all. Noirin was a lovely person, smart and motivated, dedicated to open source for many years, part of so many communities. I will miss them from geekfeminism and from all our open source and feminist activist circles.
