Unless httpd is running on a different server from your second-level domain, and your primary use of your second-level domain is something other than serving http, then the use of a www subdomain is silly. Changing it to "web" makes it no l

Thanks, icarus_drowning. Having reread my post a day later, I realize that it could have been a lot better written. I suspect you're right, just based on MS history, but that logo certainly looks like a fresh mentality. It's simpler than th

Fair enough. It's important to have different paradigms for different work styles. You use whatever works best for you. My point was just that tiling WMs were not anachronistic back in '85.

fuzzix said it best. Long ago I configured ratpoison to be modal like vi, with tons of personal customizations. I've set it up to behave exactly like I'd want any WM to, so what's the use of moving to something newer?

You speak about tiling window managers as if they were already an anachronism in 1985. Yet today, some of us continue to prefer them, and they remain in active development. What good is a window that's partially covered? I either want to co

Ever since Windows 3.1, I viewed the faux 3D window decorations as an insulting waste of my processing time. The Windows logo was merely an extrapolation of MS's attitude that "Now that we have such powerful computers, we can merrily waste

How about Firefox 9.0.1? It works for me in Chromium, but in Firefox the dropped image doesn't even appear on the deck.

I use a tiling WM too (ratpoison), so I empathize. But you don't need to launch a file manager in order to drag and drop. You can open the image file in another browser tab, and then drag it between tabs. Hover over the destination tab for

Agreed. My only point was that, contrary to your original assertion, domain names do not look anything like property owned by the registrant. That said, I do not support the confiscation, and I hope Jotform sues and wins. I'm not holding my

What's so special about .is? From http://www.isnic.is/en/ : "The registration of a domain confers rights to the use of the domain name according to ISNIC rules at any time but does not confer ownership of the domain."

It’s so simple and pervasive that even savvy users have no issue letting dozens of new services access their various accounts. No, that's patently false.

Why not ^Z and ^D? I just recently learned to use ^D to exit a shell. It's amazing how many times in my life I've typed out exit^M -- or worse, exot^H^Hit^M -- when all I needed was ^D. Edit: I now realize that you can't pair ^Z and ^D. It'

I measured the headers in ajtaylor's above post. Zappos delivers different headers each time, and currently they're only giving me 599 bytes, including zero Link headers. I agree of course that you can't consider all of it a waste. My point

Yes, I measured the size of the HTTP headers. It's not a subjective measurement. It's not 1322 bytes; it's 1275 bytes. 1322 looks like you forgot to remove the indentation that was added above for code formatting. 1275 bytes == 1.3K.

The Megaupload indictment reads that they removed links to the illegal file, but did not remove the actual file. To those blissfully unaware of how the internet works, this makes sense. It has nothing to do with the Internet. In the conte
