TL;DR: Apparently, Duck Hunt (NES Zapper) only works on CRTs because they don't have input lag.

Xeon processors with FPGAs have been announced over a year ago [1] (June 2014) and we haven't heard any details or exact dates since then. [1] http://www.extremetech.com/extreme/184828-intel-unveils-new-...

At least in St.-Petersburg: nope. After visiting Helsinki and seeing countdown timers there (they have ~6 min intervals and countdown timers show minutes only) I thought countdown timers would be more useful, even if more complicated to imp

In Russian metro there are count-up timers. Not that this is a big deal, though, when intervals between trains are shorter (2-4 minutes in St.-Petersburg; less in Moscow).

Glad to see Mozilla announcing FxOS release versions, at last (previously they didn't). Should I be able to upgrade any FxOS device to 2.5 now?

Why stop with ARM? Once we get rid of x86, the future could as well belong to various ISA's, including open-source, royalty-free ones like RISC-V [1] [1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RISC-V

FAR Manager on Windows has these in the form of Ctrl+1 ... Ctrl+0 shortcuts (set with Shift+Ctrl+1 ... Shift+Ctrl+0). Does Midnight Commander? It's one of the features I have been missing on Linux.

PopMech makes it sound more arcane thane it might be: it's not that much out of the ordinary to know (or learn) assembly and Fortran or to have to work with computers that have 64K RAM (some modern microcontrollers have less[1]) I

I guess it only counts time right with the (US) 60 Hz power supply? Then, it's strange that they made it show time in 24-hour format.

I wouldn't question the usefulness of vertical integration of chip design for phones, but I do for cars. Cell phones have power and size constraints that cars don't.

Why would custom chips be particularly useful for tomorrow's cars? Commodity chips seem to be good, so far. Looks like the author stretches the usefullness of Apple' vertical integration too far.
