The Boomers are largely gone now from tech. One former manager of mine was 65 when I left, she retired a year later at 66, gone. Unfortunately, most of the roles those people held were not back-filled. The roles vanished, too. Anecdata:

I was talking about zirp in another thread and got downvoted. But yes, companies were taking out low/zero interest loans and hiring people in hopes of making 1-2% on it, which worked for awhile. It doesn't work at 4-5%, though.

The main problem I have with cash is that we don't have denominations large enough to buy much these days thanks to inflation. The $100 is the new $20, but ATMs won't serve $100s. I buy gas for my car, it's at least $35 rig

I don't think that word salad really means anything. People fall for complex lies all the time. We just experienced it with 'public health experts' who had never done a single cost vs. benefit analysis in the real world nea

Totally unwarranted--you allowed Biden to be US President and he was mentally impaired the ENTIRE TIME and you were just fine with that, probably. So get over it! I had to. The absurdity of modern life is unbelievable.

Obama had every opportunity to change the tune when he came into office but he doubled down on bailouts instead, so it's a kind of not that important who signed what.

Congress doesn't do it's job. If Congress had to deal with tariffs they wouldn't bother. That's why we're headed towards a dictatorship.

I went in a Barnes & Noble recently and was underwhelmed by the sheer amount of vapid crap masquerading as literature these days. I'm pretty sure if people are avoiding most of that crap that it's a good thing not a bad thing

The handwringing over Trump continues and is completely unwarranted. Obama bailed out the entire banking industry to horrifying moral hazard. The US is bailing out Intel for national security reasons and taking a 10% stake is a better dea

My criticism of the JVM is that it is no longer useful because we don't do portability using that mechanism anymore. We build applications that run in containers and can be compiled in the exact type of environment they are going to r

I haven't use Go since 2024, but I was going to say something similar--seems like I was pretty happy doing all my Functional style coding in Go. The problem for me was the client didn't want us to use it. We were given the choic

I have only used Kotlin on the JVM. You're saying there's a way to avoid the JVM and build binaries with it? Gotta go look that up. The problem with Kotlin is not the language but finding jobs using it can be spotty. "Kot

This is a facile approach to making an argument against US Healthcare--far too simplistic, imho. There are plenty of nations with socialism/communism where healthcare is either non-existent or impossible to get because of rationing.

I disagree. I think if we stop using oil and gas, we fall into a new dark ages pretty fast and half or more of all humans will die. Is that what you intend?

The whole Internet is like this now--it's a victim of its own success. "Dead Internet Theory" is correct, I believe. There must be some kind of sociological term for what happens with popular websites that become victims of
