Hey, I felt like an idiot for not finding it sooner when I discovered this. So maybe it helps you or someone : if you double tap the home button, then scroll the app dock left, there's a button to disable auto-rotation on your iPhone.

This is false. The OS will auto close apps when it gets memory pressure from other apps. The "app tray" is an LRU & has nothing to do with whether the app is running. Our app (used once a day) gets restarted almost every day on old phon

It's not clear to me that the more difficult-to-enforce laws are also the more tyrannical. Examples - tyrannical but easy to enforce: "private citizens must allow soldiers to stay in their houses and eat their food". Hard to enforce but not

Julia is a huge step forward in practical programming languages. I was super impressed when I saw it at Strange Loop last year, and they've made strides since then.

This is probably the wrong attitude towards founding startups. In general, you shouldn't unnecessarily risk the business -- but if people are throwing roadblocks in your way, lots of startups seem to generally do pretty well when they play

I think it's safe to keep bringing it up as long as issues keep existing. The culture IS changing, but slowly, and requires constant pressure.

I love that the author was persistent enough to actually get to a solution -- any solution, no matter how ridiculous -- using nothing more than Google. I can't count how many times I've tried to help someone get started on the basics of the

Watsi is doing great stuff. One related thing I would recommend, if you're interested in charity & philanthropy, is to check out GiveWell ( http://givewell.org ). They have very well-studied recommendations of charities, and they recomm

It's obvious why they removed it. It was a weird feature that didn't belong in the browser. Users didn't understand what it was for. (I use RSS and I still didn't understand why I would ever click that button.)

Convertible debt is the trendy way to finance seed-stage startups these days. It allows early investors to essentially "punt" on determining the true valuation of the company at an early stage, while still ensuring that they get a decent de

God, Racket is awesome. If you have the energy (and it DOES take energy), go through them all and understand why they work. It's fun and it will teach you a surprising amount about programming languages. The thing I yearn for most day-to-da

I don't love this refactor. I especially don't like how it generates names from other names -- e.g., given 'switch'/'submit', appends '_row', and then converts it to CamelCase so you get 'SwitchRow'/'SubmitRow', then instantiates the class

OK, I'll bite. Your social error, leading to claims of sexism, was linking bad HR people and women. I believe you when you say that's what you've observed. But, whether you like it or not, it's not okay (in public, at least) to make stateme
