The whole point of the exercise is playing with USB OTG, and the Pi has only one OTG port, so you need another way to connect to it (been there, done that)

The apps and most of the backend are open source too, not just the protocol. The important distinction is that it's not decentralized like XMPP or email, which is a conscious decision: it would become very difficult to change it to a

It goes both ways, of sorts - DE-CIX is also a consequence of all the large DCs being there :-) Interestingly, Tier 1 transit pricing is increasingly competitive and DE-CIX access is more expensive (relatively speaking) in recent years.

Stacking with Gerrit works beautifully. Can only recommend giving it a try!

The biggest problem with Flakes right now is that they will copy your entire Git repository into the (world-readable) Nix store, rather than just the files that are referenced. Even if you're in a subdirectory - which makes is unusable

HN has always been an echo chamber :-) I've been using the MV3 version for months because it does not require permissions. It works just fine. And in the rare case where I do need cosmetic filtering, I can simply click the extension ic

The CLI doesn't help with stacked commits, though. There's tools like spr[1] but none of them are anywhere as pleasant to use as Gerrit (or Phabricator, I guess). [1]: https://github.com/ejoffe/spr

GitHub PRs are both bad process (no stacking or per-commit review, incentivizes large changes, ...) and bad tool (no inter-diffs, noisy diffs, comments disappear through rebases, slow, ...).

I switched to uBlock Origin Lite as soon as it was available and I haven't seen a single ad. It works fine. And now I have one less thing to worry about - my adblocker extension getting compromised through a supply chain attack.

With Manifest v3, you can get adblocking without having to trust your adblocker extension, like on Safari. That's a significant benefit. You can still opt into having your data stolen, but now it's no longer a requirement for adbl

The author is mistaken about the perceived lack of research into alternatives. We know how to write secure C/C++ code. The methods are very expensive and don't scale to large engineering teams. Government agencies as well as large

Both, really. The OS-level ossification isn't quite as bad as the middleboxes, but is still glacially slow and bad enough to justify QUIC on its own. Case in point: the whole TCP Fast Open drama.
