I don't think selfies are really the crucial common factor here. It seems to be more of a general "hey guys, watch this" thing, and selfies are just one way of communicating that. Doesn't make it any less sad though.

That's rarely PHP failing but whatever framework/CMS is used. That's like saying C++ is inherently insecure because there exists a lot of software written in C++ with security holes.

Why not? If we only developed for what we already do, then we'd still be doing the same stuff we did years ago. Besides, web apps in C aren't completely unheard of.
