Just the other day I started looking back into Golang. Syntactically, and with Gofmt, it is quite readable. But then they have to go and ruin it by making single letter variables a common thing.

Glad I read your disclaimer before responding. :P Was just reviewing colleague's code with them the other day. Hit some blocks like this (not quite as offensive, but tackling a bit in one line), and hell if they knew what was going on

A friend just went through the hire process at FB for iOS. It actually was very practical. According to him it was more or less stuff we do every day, with one generic, programming puzzle of sorts.

Interesting. Seems like that would just be one part of a larger application, though. And for that, my mind just jumps to something like Postgres with `jsonb` fields to store it all denormalized, then using columns to store relations, like t

I'm going through the bad back from sitting (and being sedentary in general). I've got a standing desk as well. But standing is no substitute for exercise, which is what your back really needs - both the movement and the strengthe

My guess would be the MPAA and RIAA are large organizations with a lot of money, and plenty of time to focus on such things. Where the case here is that it's a bunch of individual businesses that have to weigh their cost of pursuing wi

Cool! My commute is on here (Newburgh / Beacon, NY), although mine is a hair better. My commute usually ranges from 1:50 to 2 hours. I get up at 6:30, a 10 minute walk to the Beacon train station for the 7:08 train which brings me stra

That's not terribly relevant these days, though. For the same reasons you mention it makes 2pm in the afternoon the worst time to be on break and out of your air conditioned office or workplace.

I partially blame every tutorial and contrived example of how you should use Redux. When first starting with React & Redux I spent some time thinking of where and how I should use Redux. Being that I was new to both, I didn't have

Similar to the article author, many just don't have experience with relational db's and have only heard that they aren't flexible and don't scale. They don't realize just how easily performant Postgres can be - and

Yeah, but what I don't get about this, is that building that tech (if it's just a map and pin tracking your friends) is not hard. And certainly wouldn't be hard for Snap. I can't see how 2 million users are worth it eith

Depends on what you're trying to accomplish. But setting up a data warehouse that builds out the KPIs you're looking for along with a dashboard to display them (the easy part, for sure) can certainly take over a month.
