The downside is that you would have to put () (Rust's version of “nil”) in a bunch of functions to fulfil the requirements of the callback's signature since otherwise the type inferred from the function would be the value of the last

The main thing that I see dynamic languages as having over static languages is metaprogramming. See http://stackoverflow.com/questions/8276387/statically-typed-... . Metaprogramming is prevalent in python/ruby, regardless of how confusing

Scala's Parser-Combinators are about as good as you are going to get http://www.scala-blogs.org/2009/04/combinators-for-pretty-pr... . Consider the grammar for simple math expressions: expr ::= sum sum ::= product { ("+"

If we'd implement the JVM in the browser, we'd get Java as well as Jython/JRuby/Clojure/Scala almost for free.

The same thing was said when C was invented; everyone knew that no serious programmer would ever not know Assembly, and anyway, hand-written Assembly would always be cleaner and more performant than generated C. All these novice programmers

Could the google bot take a captcha it finds and use it in one of it's own re-captchas? Essentially passing the burden of deciphering the text onto some unsuspecting human, it will be able to beat all captchas with ease!

Doesn't the C compiler do all sorts of optimization magic that makes the output of the compiler sometimes hard to predict? C is also not the only language that succeeded; C++ and Java are doing pretty well, and I've used them quite alot wit

We've heard this all before, though. 40 years ago, Machine Code was where it was it, and people scoffed at those who were lazy enough to use an assembler. Then Assembly was where it was at, and the abstraction that C provided was leaky and
