There is a colloquial usage of the word container when it comes to Linux, and it's not what you're referring to, as similar as they may seem.

You are confusing it. Nix does not use containers.

So I guess for them the only option for their short term redemption buffer is to keep money in the 4 systemically important banks. There are no other options. Relevant note, FED won't approve full reserve banks (several tried) as they

They held cash at SVB. They will probably smarten up and start holding short term treasuries and avoid as much as possible bank liabilities. Just a guess.

I have been seeing conflicting opinions from people in the financial know-how. On one hand, patio11 says that you can ignore this and that the banking system is very resilient. On the other hand, him and others mentions that you need to use

I think a lot of people would agree with that statement. FED is responsible for a lot of profits, both in the equity market and definitely in the crypto asset market.

I don't agree with this take, talking as someone who has maintained their own email server in one form or another for many years. I think the separation of components in the traditional email stack is absolute bonkers and an artefact o

And to go a bit further, ban leveraged trading. They mention this in the article and I fully agree. Leveraged trading encourages short term speculation and casino like behaviors. I would go even further and ban leveraged trading in any fina

You are wrong. Banks don’t need deposits to create loans/money. They crate the money, out of thin air, as the conspiracy theorists like to say it, and they pay the central bank interest on it. That’s it. Start with this paper from the

Loan creation doesn’t work like that for many many years. These days banks don’t even have a reserve requirement. They just create the money and balance the books later. Edit: to make my point clearer, banks don’t need your deposits to crea

I am talking about writes that come from 2 different nodes. If 2 different nodes, each making a different write at the exact same time, you would need some global ordering or consensus in order to order them. Otherwise you might end up in a

Unfortunately the only way to achieve that in the fediverse is by hosting your own instance, or at the minimum using your own domain and having someone manage the instance for you.

But since you don't have NATS message ordering (from different sources), it's possible that different DBs in the cluster will end up out of sync, right?

Marmot looks interesting, but I am curious how it deals with conflicts. What happens if two writes for the same field happen on two different dbs, and they are conflicting?

Not an expert but I think synchronising the signals might be challenging if you hack it yourself. I know Airplay 2 has the feature to pair speakers so perhaps if you can get Airplay 2 working on rpi then it might work. But in my experience

Wait till we get to the final stage, where we install apps on people's computers directly. That way, we get ZERO latency. Can't wait! What should we call it?

Great feature, but cloud providers are incentivised to make it difficult for people to save money. This would instantly vaporise a big chunk of revenue, because people would not have to pay for pre-provisioned storage.

I can sympathize with your point of view and it’s fair if people want to only care about their own back yard. But if we take that path and give up on Ukraine, the EU as a project is fucked. I won’t repeat what other commenters mentioned, bu
