That’s a fair point and I share the same concern. I would have allowed anyone that owns a domain and can prove it, to get their domain for free in the new system. You could do the proof similarly to how Let’s Encrypt does it

I hope more implementations will become available. It’s a decent start, since the C based light client doesn’t expose any services.

The handshake namespace overlaps with the normal domain name system, but they reserve the top 100k domains for the current owners. My only concern is the long term sync between DNS and the old system. But I like the project and I think it’s

Very good point! In this video [1], economist Richard Werner rants about the existing central banking influenced economies, but at around the 47th minute he mentions the roughly 1500 "champions" (USA has 300), and he argues that t

I’m looking forward to bcachefs becoming feature complete and upstreamed. We finally have a good chance of having a modern and reliable FS in the Linux kernel. My wish list includes snapshots and per volume encryption.

I don’t have experience with running Synapse but it looks like a beast. Dendrite and Ruma look very promising though; can’t wait to have a lightweight home-server ready for prime-time.

If Mozilla will use their own domain name they will be free to move their federated Matrix instance wherever they want. Modular.im will only provide the hosting expertise. I expect that in the future self-hosting your own Matrix server inst

Bitwarden is a nice alternative. And you can self-host the server part if you want. edit: LastPass is owned by LogMeIn, that's why I mention this alternative.

Looking at the geopolitical trends it seems that global consensus is waning, and that is why I think it will get worse before it will get better. Humans respond to crisis better than they respond to future imagined dangers. That doesn'

In a hypothetical society that might be the case. In our situation though, we have large countries like India, Indonesia and perhaps some African countries, that will need to grow their energy consumption per capita and it is unlikely that

That's true, Cloudflare has mastered the art of DDoS mitigation and they have developed some amazing tools [1] to achieve that, and fortunately they are sharing some of this knowledge. With the advent of eBPF, I reckon that this kind o

Handshake ( https://handshake.org/ ) is another attempt at a decentralized domain name system. It’s compatible with the old system so I’m more hopeful that it can gain some adoption. Let’s see.

Not when it comes at the expense of security. Perhaps there are contexts where security is not important and this rule does not apply, but it clearly is a problem for CPUs.

As far as I know, the highest inflation since 2008 has been experienced by "financial assets", which is not really considered in the actual inflation numbers published by the government, because supposedly it's not important

Why not tax or make all energy more expensive? That way all wasteful usage will be curtailed and only the valuable use cases will be left after a while. If we do what you proposed it sounds like we should start taxing other behavior on the

Isn't that a slippery slope? If you extrapolate, the market gets used to easy money from the central banks and we end up with most companies being owned by the central banks. Price discovery and risk get totally screwed.

Can you point to the pure Go re-implementation of Sqlite? I was looking for such a thing but never found it. Instead I had to go with a k/v store like Bolt.
