C/assembly to learn about the machine and because they're everywhere, Lisp to learn about all the paradigms, and a popular scripting language if you need big libraries. Java is so ugly, it'll just confuse them. It confused me, anyway.

You probably know about sar, but a lot of people may not; it can get advanced with all the options, but for simple cpu spot checks: sar -u X Y prints Y lines of utilization info, one every X seconds.

If you're not matching on variable numbers of arguments, you can just have 1 function sig and a case statement. The thing I dislike most about erlang, besides the lack of a good macro system, is that the repl is full of annoying special cas

And before that it was Amazon. I still remember the "find it on Amazon" link on every page of AOL NetFind search results :) Apparently it was some special deal they made with AOL, from back when search engines did things like that: http:

Force companies to decide exactly what they're doing, and declare it to the government in unambiguous language so that it can be broadcast to the public. Yeah. While we're at it we should force them to submit a document declaring the type

Multimethods are ambient actions. You could implement them with functions and any sort of type system. Maybe also a way to have variable-length parameter lists. If that's OO then functional programming is object-oriented programming.

Aside from all the Java crap it has multimethods, but it doesn't really make sense to call them OO because there's no object that they're attached to.

I get it--as it gets impossible to find out who came up with what, content creators are an indirect casualty but historians are a direct one because that's their actual job! That's sort of funny. I guess they'll have to use fancy statisti

Well I don't believe that you need to posit a fundamental consciousness-property to explain collapse. There are clearer explanations that rely only on what physicists (mostly) already accept, which David Albert explains well: http://www.a
