It's funny that you think a lifestyle is immoral if it doesn't accomplish its own "internal goals." I think that's wrong, and not just in pathological cases. I might be an ultracompetitive misanthrope who lives to be on top (gordon-gecko-

So my small problem sounds like a bigger problem. Why won't Erlang let me specify the order of evaluation? You know, like, left to right?

You said it. I checked out the Erlang tutorial just now, and apparently you can't use user-defined functions in the test-expression of a conditional, to prevent people from putting side-effecty functions in there? Now maybe there's some g

Well the PS3 has 9 cores, or something like that. Don't you think that says something about the computers we'll all be using, and by extension, the parallel-processing capabilities we'll have to take advantage of in the future? Personally

PG: Can an arc instance distribute its threads across multiple cpu's? I'm not asking "can-in-principle" but rather whether the current implementation has that feature.

I live near philly and there's always "brain drain" talk (aka how can we keep wharton grads in the city?) It looks like a lot of their speakers and mentors are in finance/accounting. So whatever they say, I think this project is not reall

Yeah the gimmicky feel counts against it (also the lack of web 2.0 slides compared to the other topics...maybe they just show the youtube bubble video?) But I know a guy who works at Google and has taken it and says he learned a lot, and I

Thanks for the feedback; that's partly my motivation with wanting to take logic--if math requires me to think more, then I should take that, because developing good thinking habits is so valuable. But a bunch of the comments here suggest t
