Is this generally true for compiled languages ? I like being able to handle https in a single go binary for small projects that otherwise don't need a load balancer etc.

As a user of "Hacker" News, you are potentially .... a hacker, who is quite likely to care if it is possible to hack on it in general (hence it matters that its open source) and you also likely care if it is easy for you to hack o

I remember seeing QBasic after getting introduced to GWBasic previous year and getting so excited that every line didn't need to have line numbers as part of source. My first reaction was oh - my gotos won't break all the time anym

Improbable's grpc-web [1] works pretty well. I have been using it along with their new websocket transport for about two months and as an RPC layer its great. However I do miss being able to inspect the traffic in devtools, and the TS

Twirp does not support streaming or websockets though. This is something connect-web appears to handle well.

I briefly used youtube's spfjs library for something people now a days call island architecture. Given the name similarity, I was wondering if the author also had some involvement in that library, but looks like not.

Yeah the flashy gradients are a bit distracting. On the flip side, I didnt realize background clip was now available in all mainstream browsers. I am surprised it is not more common in websites. I might use it in titles or captions but mayb

My first job was at a company where this was installed system wide on all remote linux boxes. Everytime you type sl it would take over the whole terminal for a couple of seconds leaving you unable to do anything. This was before docker &

The hard fork nomenclature has been around in FOSS ecosystem for a long time.

Soft forks are usually created for development & experimentation with the intent to eventually merge back upstream. A hard fork is intended to diverge and evolve into an independent project.

You should look at logseq [1]. It is primarily an outliner but has a good integrated PDF reader with highlighting & annotation support. Content is saved as markdown. It has pretty much replaced other note taking tools for me, but I know

I use a self-hosted yarr [1] instance for rss. It is really minimal and very easy to run (self contained native binary). [1] https://github.com/nkanaev/yarr

I am curious: why shipping on iOS store makes it incompatible with GPL ? I mean I respect your decision to make it open-source or not, but why does the store matter ?

Yes, while that is true, TS errors can sometimes be really clunky. And sans a debugger, it is not uncommon for me to be spending stretches of 20-30 mins almost every week trying to unravel complex type errors that span multiple pages. I rec

Hashnode is not so much better in this regard. These days I primarily follow InfoQ, Habr, a few select individual bloggers, few larger company blogs and my feed has substantially improved.

Have been using raindrop for a couple months. Maybe it varies by collection size or location, but I rarely experience a request that takes more than a sec to complete.

If you use RSS it may also appeal to you that Raindrop supports creating public RSS feeds from collections.

They don't mean checking at runtime. Looking at a method/property signature it should be explicitly and unambiguously clear whether or not null is an acceptable value - but in java there is no way to enforce this.

Looks nice, though not being based on wayland is a bummer. It also seems like the author originally wrote it in Rust and then switched to Nim. If they are around, would love to understand the motivation.

The lock-in part is increasingly untrue. Esp. if you are on gcloud, your functions are not tied to their infra at all. Eg. For nodejs you are just writing express middlewares with no real gcloud infra dependency. You can also use their buil
