A bit late to the party, but they don't keep a percentage of your rate. You set your rate and that is what you get paid. Whatever they take as commission is between them and the client. Source: I work with Toptal.

Only in theory. Even if you do respect the layout margins and safe area, there design needs to accommodate the change, so where the status bar was only 20 pixels, there's now a lot more space to deal with and the design needs to adjust

Note (and I've seen this in a lot of apps/sites) that you should expect to not receive an email from a Facebook login. I explicitly do not share my Facebook email, and every website that wants to do Facebook login fails to notice

As far as I've seen, happy user have little incentive to go and leave a good review. But the users who have had some annoyances with the app are definitely going to take it to the reviews. This leaves you with negatively biased reviews

The analogy is weak. You are not vandalizing the ads if you're blocking them. When you vandalize the billboard, no one else can read it. When you block ads on your own computer/network, no one else is affected.
