Thanks Henrik! Great review, convinced me to buy a copy of the book.

Can't beat Russian literature for amusingly depressing tales of the proletariat. The summary was enough for me!

Heheh, I love using my fountain pen at meetings with brown ink from Montblanc. Always raises an appreciative glance or two. That said how the heck do you manage the dreaded question 'can I borrow your pen?' ;)

You actually read to the end? The article concludes with the lack of representation in Congress which is certainly linked.

Bit of an invalid test since the files played through both players were not-identical. The iPhone had tracks from iTunes, the Pono tracks from the Pono Store. Any difference in loudness will give the edge to the track which is mastered at a

Marco's article seems a little hyperbolic since as I recall Leopard for instance was hugely unstable on release. Conventional wisdom with OS X has always been to wait a few point releases before jumping in. With Microsoft it was to wai

First thing I noticed was how many authors it took to write that article. Believe Anand used to write past iPhone reviews solo - think they're gonna find it tough to replace him.

I've always been a HUGE fan of the PowerVR tech (the GPU inside the iPhone/iPad), even going so far as buying shares in the company when I was a kid (I was an odd kid). From what I understand of the technology it was built with ef

Really? We might have said that on January 8th 2007 too... It's always tricky anticipating the point of sufficiency. Probably because it's a moving target. Besides I'm not sure that the iPhone was such low hanging fruit. It p

I've used ZFS (FreeNAS) for quite a few years and find it pretty flawless. Trust it's not too dumb a question but what advantage is there to running ZFS on Linux when you can run it on variants of Solaris or BSD just fine?

I do the same but looking at homes in the Bay Area. Cannot believe that mansion in Detroit. That would be $6m or more in SF. It's interesting seeing old films or pictures from San Francisco. The city has clearly had its ups and downs.

Heheh, was wondering if I was the only one who felt that! That said, great talk, found it pretty inspirational as a jaded 30 year old, so doubtless those kids would have taken away some of your 'stories' and filed them under advic

The post seems slightly melodramatic and certainly doesn't mirror my experience finding an office for our company in the same area. I'll agree that trying to find an office in London online is pretty futile - the best thing to d

Surprised at how fast the LOC are increasing in Linux. Makes the possiblity of exploits and vulnerabilities being slipped in increasingly likely. Interesting graph I found while looking up LOC for comparable projects: http://www.

In my experience (family business is property rental) I think the point at which you can afford a property manager is pretty far down the line for most people. A cheap property manager or estate agent is generally not worth it - their main

Cheer up sir, depression is a feeling that serves a purpose. It's there to force you to evaluate your circumstances and resolve whatever is making you glum. Use it don't lose it.

Be curious to see what sort of flat you have for £1200 a month. Must be very nice...I currently pay £1300 a month to rent a three bedroom house with a large garden. If I was willing to downsize then £900 is doable for a 2 bedroom apartment.

First Intel Macbook Pro came out with an ATI Radeon X1600 or other. I figured I'd wait a generation or so Apple could iron out the kinks. I finally picked up the Macbook Pro with NVIDIA 8600M graphics, that worked out well... Moral of the s

The way I figure it is, some days you work harder and need more sleep, some days you need less. So I try to be like a machine: I'll wake up at 7am and go to sleep when I'm tired. This results in me getting about 6-8 hours sleep a night - an

Superb work presenting such big numbers in a 'graspable' way. I wonder what techniques the artist used to generate some of the more complicated images.
