I don't think the graph agrees with the essay. In the essay, the "unintentional moderate" is defined as someone who holds all kinds of views, some from the far left, some from the far right, some from the middle - but by chan

Yeah, I much prefer using a well designed self service system than trying to explain it over the phone. The only problem with most of the flights I book now is that they're with low cost airlines and packed with dark patterns designed

I had a play with the tscircuit CAD tool which they're writing this autorouter for. It's hardware-as-code, leveraging React. I love the concept of schematics-as-code. But layout-as-code is awful. Maybe AI tools will improve it eno

Open source CAD has improved a lot in the last few years. You can use FreeCAD for modelling simple parts today and it mostly works. That wasn’t the case a few years ago. There was a time KiCAD was a buggy mess. And no doubt blender as well.

It’s funny that a country so wound up in national pride as the USA can’t see that an existential threat to your countries sovereignty triggers a deep emotional response.

That’s been my observation too. My completely amateur theory is that a young child’s perception of the world - their ability to contextualise what they’re looking at - changes so much that even if those old memories are still hanging around

The foundation of maintainable software is architecture. I can't be alone in having often spent days puzzling over a seemingly highly complex problem before finally finding a set of abstractions that makes it simple and highly testable

By what basis are Brussels or Amsterdam closer to London from Manchester? Manchester is a 2 hour train ride from London. Brussels is similar, but there’s at least an hour of mandatory security and waiting. Amsterdam is much further away.

I bought a knife on Amazon. Every step of the process says “you must be over 18 and show ID to the delivery driver”. The ordering page, follow up email, tracking page, even the parcel had in huge letters “over 18 ID required”. I found the p

It's not only not really idiomatic, it's almost never necessary in practice. I was struggling to think of a time I'd ever given a type annotation to an integer local variable - because normally the place the variable ends up

I don't think it's unreasonable to find accents from places you don't live hard to understand. A lot of accents completely shift the vowel sounds. It can take a lot of familiarisation to start to understand what each sound me

I'm a bit confused by this. In practice you can't combine no_std and std within a single project anyway - because then the entire app is relying on the std library, so is no longer no_std. Surely if a user sets no_std as a feature

This project uses an array of ESP32s and some clever calibration techniques to do pretty accurate localisation of WiFi signals. There's an excellent companion video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXwDrcd1t-E
