I recommend Max Miller's Tasting History series on youtube. He certainly covers some unusual recipes and ingredients that still look interesting. Admittedly, I didn't try much of his recipes.

I think this is mostly a philosphical question, rather than optimizer quality. Once an optimization becomes part of the interface and it is guaranteed, is it really an optimization? Or did it just became part of the language/library&#x

Don't deploy ASAN builds to production, it's a debugging tool. It might very well introduce attack vectors on its own, it's not designed to be a hardening feature.

Features C++ has that Rust doesn't: * template specialisations * function overloading * I believe const generics is still not there in Rust, or its necessarily more restricted. In general metaprogramming facilities are more expressive

OS threads can be put to sleep for many reasons, or they can be preempted for no explicit reason at all. On such reason could be accessing memory that is currently not paged in. This could be memory in the rext section, memory mapped from t

Optimizing for grep is fair, however searching for whole words is typically possible in most contexts. I don't have a problem for grepping single letter variable names, although I admit that whole word or word boundary search is not as

I believe it refers to the mbstate_t* function parameter. It handles chunked transcoding, where chunk boundaries can be in the middle of multi-byte characters. You can than carry this state from one chunk to the next.

Another example is music (and relatedly, rythm games). With memorized music you have maximal anticipation of actions. The regular rithm only amplifies that anticipation. Musicians can be very consistent at timing (especially rithm section),

One important aspect is when you knowingly take on tech debt in return of some short-term benefit. Then this benefit becomes an other axis to weigh against.

You can install openssh server and client as Windows components nowadays, somewhere from settings. You can set up git remotes just fine with it, I don't remember trying sshfs.

It might compare favorably as a scripting language to bash, but I prefer python in this space. As an interactive shell I'm getting used to powershell on Windows, but I have too much bash muscle memory for now.

Yes, that's an alternate ABI with 32-bit addressing targeting the same 64-bit instruction set. But it's not trivial, as you described. You might also want some kernel support too, and there might not be enough demand to maintain t

Ouch. I think the blame is partly on the build configuration. IMO build configurations shouldn't degrade silently this way. If the user is OK without a 32-bit vDSO then they should explicitly specify that.
