Really, the worst code only ever happens in systems of extreme maturity. I'm doing some light internal Windows system stuff right now, and all the business w.r.t. COM combined with a rampant NIH disease and competing coding guidelines resul

If you want to touch the lives of as many people as possible, you can't go wrong working for Microsoft. They might be evil, but if I can help out some percentage of their users, that's quite a bit of good done for the world. I won't say t

Sometimes it's annoying, but overall, the problems (at least, the one I'm working on) are interesting, and, for some things, they have great tools.

Because if you like solving problems, the problem, not the technology, is the most important thing. Seattle's a pretty nice town too. At least, that's my answer.

When you avoid tight bends and creases (singularities---places where the derivative vanishes), you have a nice structure on which you can do useful things like take derivatives, measure lengths and angles, find "straight" lines, and such.

I'm trying to run the demo, and it keeps starting up emacs in order to compile html templates. It doesn't use -nw or -q, so for each file, it creates a window, loads my init files, runs a tiny bit of elisp to expand a template (or somethin

No, FUSE is really slow, it just depends what you're benchmarking. That guy is really benchmarking the disk, not the filesystem. If you benchmark things that test the filesystem layer on its operations---that is, make it do lots of things
