First there was APM https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/standard/asynchrono... then there came TPL (using Task but without async await but ContinueWith) and finally async await with some later refinement

It's fiction in the sense of value set arbitrarily by people. In the end the value of most things is like that. People are ready to spend more money (meaning they value it higher) on houses bigger than they need, without getting any ut

The same was said 10 years ago. It's astonishing what can be done, but you can already see fundamental limits. I think it will raise productivity for some tasks, but not fundamentally change society.

How is this different from the relatively well-known concept of a minimum viable product? > A minimum viable product (MVP) is a version of a product with just enough features to be usable by early customers who can then provide feedback

At least VW seems to have given up on that plan. The ID.3 is only getting more and more expensive when it was planned to get cheaper. They plan to raise ICE prices even more though.

Data consistency comes at a cost, but eschewing it does as well. Most of the time the performance impact of data consistency does not matter, potentially introducing heisenbugs in your system can come at a huge cost though.

Some low-power low-speed low-cost ethernet would also be very interesting for home automation. Thread/Zigbee just has 250kb/s and that is already enough. Cables offer more reliability and the possibility for low voltage dc power s

There are also deserts with rocks and not sand. The Sahara in most of its stretch is more rocky than sandy. Arid and desert climate are synonymous.

Where would you get all the water for that? The defining characteristic of a desert is little precipitation.

The article doesn't consider that in a lot of European cities curb-side parking is very common. People have no garage and usually drive very few kilometers.

Mining for combustion cars also breaks havoc and nobody cares. It would be best to reduce our car dependence, but I guess a new electric car is still better than a new combustion car.

I'm saying that maybe writing runes on stones was uncommon compared to write them on wood and that maybe runes were more common in central Europe than what we see, because those runes endured less than the ones on stones in Scandinavia

I always wonder with runes if there is a huge survivorship bias. Runes most likely lack horizontal strokes to be easier to carve into wood, but wood doesn't endure time as much. Also with stones there's probably a similar effect:

You can load a bicycle with cheap pannier bags easily with a lot of stuff. There’s also trailers and on the luxury level cargo bikes if you have more stuff to transport. Buying enough goods for a week or two is not an issue with bicycles.

Using parser generators is not easier, it’s just less work. Recursive descent parsing is very easy and is the best option if you want good error handling for parsing. It’s very time-consuming though.

You have the same need of interoperability for ISAs. Being able to share compiled binaries is a huge advantage as can be seen with x86 on the desktop and ARM for mobile devices.
