All languages have quirks. It's the degree of WTF-ness and how much they affect majority of its users that it becomes popular as a WTF-y language. The more the users the more chances of this too. Personally I find Python to be ergonom

Totally respect this viewpoint. I think the parent comment is about the shame of having a powerful device that could be programmed but is locked down only because the manufacturer thought so: an iPad can do a lot more but isn't allowe

I've never needed to build LuaJIT as a git repo. Just download the tarball and did: make and make install; all I have is GNU make and GCC. Am I missing something?

Though you've no interest in space exploration you qualify to pass judgement on how inflated a space exploration related post, how?

Technically no one has landed in the crater ridden South pole on the dark side of the moon. Scientifically it's useful to course these uncharted parts of the moon both for water/ice and mineral composition. I don't see how p

South pole is unexplored and no one has ever landed there, manned or unmanned. Exploring the unexplored isn't science?

Nice, simple article. I'd have been nicer if you could justify the design of using scripting in this ray tracer. It only does create, save and delete image which is also a wrapper around equivalent C++ functions. It feels like using

That's due to the Perl culture. Their FAQs and man pages were top class due to the kind of programmers who write Perl; funny, pithy and quirky.

Depends on who you ask. Physically the rock-pusher job is harder. Mentally the architect's. I'd say pay comes in based on demand. Do we have more brainy folks or brawny folks?

That'd increase the package disk footprint by a large value since there are many languages supported by Emacs by default.

True, I've seen this with many projects in general (even outside software), the quality goes down as the quantity (of people involved) increases.

This! I'm happy that Emacs isn't the greatest editor or the most-used/-popular; it needn't compete with say VSCode or vim. There's a decent, loyal user base, importantly not the free-loading, entitled kind who wate
