In my experience if you give a time estimate, people make that the new metric to optimize to. So they spend 4 hours creating something that looks like 20 mins. Most articles like this focus on what is lost for employees at the whim of a car

Building specialized agents is a great way to achieve what humans do through teams and organizations. For individual developers the benefits are dubious, but for ChatGPT, it’s obvious that the end game is letting developers/people buil

This is not hate. Langchain was a delightful way to get used to concepts and then it was easier, faster and better to reconstruct the elements I needed myself without having to dig into LC docs to try to figure out why X was acting weird so

Would have been fascinating to see what names like Apple would have looked like on this list. Macro the trend is correct but I’d be curious to see how different it would look for what is commonly regarded as a more trusted brand. FB, Google

If you have the money to pay for these services, your children’s “success” (defined professionally by prestige roles) is preordained to be fine because they have a fallback cushion and it’s not that hard to buy your way into these professio

I’m curious about the nature of your business, $4M in profit in a year is really impressive. What business are you in?

This really speaks to me and my experience. It’s not AI’s ability to beat me in my own domain, it’s the ability for me to extend my domain to a different style to achieve the results I want. I think folks that underrate the technology are e

My primary use of langchain has been to turn text into a vector database with chroma and then query the vector database to return source materials to an LLM to use. I’d much prefer to move away from it because like the author I find LC’s ad

Amen! I had the exact same reaction. Like the author I eventually threw my hands in the air and started rolling my own solution that is already getting most of what I was interested in done without the hassle.

In 1800 there were around 1 billion people and today there are around 8 billion. Humans do seem to scale rather easily. https://ourworldindata.org/world-population-growth

Counter point: sure they are. Humans are highly adaptable and like other changes to information availability in the past they will adapt. This is what societal norms and cultural memes are for. “Don’t believe everything you hear” “Don’t bel

Running whisper locally on my iPhone back in December and watching perfect transcriptions pop out without sending anything to a server was a real lightbulb moment for me that set in motion a bunch of the work I’m doing now. Excited to see t

I'm interested in this as well and have been exploring similarly. Would be super interesting to chat if you're up for it as well. Sending you an email to say hello.

I agree - it's not that I 'can't' access Claude, it's that they're not really shipping the API at the same scale that OAI is.

I’ve been working directly with OpenAI’s access, are there any other advantages to doing this through Azure?

The problem with Claude is that it is quite literally impossible to get off the waiting list to use it. To OpenAI’s credit they actually ship the product in an accessible way to developers.

Yep. You have to have a product to get in the game and win customers and these are all examples of a killer product. And then you build a business serving a customer around them that - even when your features are cloned - create a sustainab

The fact that anyone at Google wrote this memo tells you more about Google than it does about AI (or anything). What’s the moat for Apple (after all, they’re all phones and computers)? What’s the moat for Microsoft (after all Google and ins

FWIW, I think one of the chief challenges over the last 5 years is that “tech” became a fashionable, prestige job. Both because of the earnings potential and because of some “it” factor/cultural cache. This led to an influx of people w

I appreciate Google’s research, but it does feel like they’re behind the bar on demos/products consistently. A landing page and a research paper aren’t the best way to demonstrate software.
