Yup, SA is definitely the best. It's well moderated, tons of knowledgeable people there. Definitely worth the tenbux.

Jeez, I loved Book Pool for computer books. I hope they didn't accidentally let their domain expire. To answer your question, no, I don't know, and I'm just as stunned as you are.

I do not work for Facebook, nor have I ever, but they do have some pretty neat things PHP-wise on their open source section of the site. http://developers.facebook.com/opensource.php Particularly, Thrift is what they use to use PHP on the

Well, imagine that the query returns 1000 (or a million or what not) results. You've looped through it once already in the getSnsWithoutIds() to build the $sns array (which you should use $sns[] = $row['aim_sn'], its faster). So, you've loo

Thanks for the thoughts. To be honest, I'm not really concerned about PHP4 anymore, it's been dead a while. Thanks giving me an idea for a followup article too, I'll do exactly that, write a small direct application and compare performance

Thanks for the comments. Most of that code was copied from my framework, which is full of Doxygen comments, and I use my username in our subversion repository and my email address for the author of each method since several methods can have

I'm the author and submitter of the article, and I'd honestly love to hear what people think about this. I know there's a lot of (understandable) disdain for PHP, but I think you can do some neat things with it. This is one application that

Yes, I agree, you should generally ignore the naysayers, the ones who say "don't do it", "it'll never happen", "this is going nowhere", etc. However, don't immediately write them off. They may actually have some valid points and they should

From what I've read around the Internet, Craigslist is perfectly happy being one of the worlds largest websites run by 32 people. I don't think they want to grow to a huge marketplace, or want to make billions. They sound like a company tha

I think any platform can make both developers and user's happy. I agree and empathize with jwz in that its got to be incredibly frustrating to write two relatively simple apps only to have to jump through hoop after hoop to get them publish

Definitely! I presented my PHP framework at a meetup a year ago, so its time to go again to give some more talks on sites I've used to build it and go from there. I also spent this weekend setting up my blog and thinking about all of the ar

This is a great guide, and I truly thank you for posting it. I'm in the process of building my own small software business/consultancy, and one of the questions I have is how to find and keep customers. This really, really helps. Thanks!

Pretty much just the other's people have mentioned. Maybe it would be alright to include a one or two line signature now to help differentiate everyone and to promote their work.

I tend to agree, but I'll fully admit, I'm a PHP hacker and I've been hacking in it since around 1999 or so. I didn't see this as much of a hack (read parts of the paper associated with it) as much as a way to do some cooler things in 5.3.

Socially progressive in the software market == we like open source software and contribute back to it. I'll make it more evident. No, thats a real business address, we have a real office.

I'm not sure why you were downmodded, but I upmodded you because I agree. I use subversion daily, and I love it. I've dabbled in git, I understand the strengths, but for me, its not worth spending the time to migrate all of my projects over
