it's not clever to go out of your way to piss off the base of the last guy from your team that won. clearly the democrats understand that, seeing as we are currently experiencing Obama's third term.

in my experience, it's almost inevitable that you end up calling some code you don't control that returns raw pointers. better hope you have access to the source or at least some good docs :)

I'm not sure I fully understand the question. RAII is powerful, but it is just a tool to organize what is still manual resource management. it can help with memory/thread safety, but it doesn't guarantee those things by itsel

the linked article describes a percentage-based income sharing scheme. the student isn't necessarily incentivized to get a higher paying job than they would otherwise. the school definitely is incentivized to guide students into more

I went to a state school with a similar strategy: accept basically everyone then thin the herd with some brutal weed out courses. I don't think it was some cynical strategy to raise revenue though; they also offered tons of remedial co

you might as well ask what's the point of insurance if you never wreck your car. I have some nice things, but none of them bring me as much peace as having a deep buffer for unexpected problems. if I learned that I would die in a month

it's not semantics. there's a useful distinction between addiction and dependence. dependence is the tolerance/withdrawal cycle. it doesn't necessarily coincide with the cravings that are characteristic of addiction. som
