Almost every software job in the city was terrible. You had a choice of which kind of terrible. Want to wear a suit and work long hours under crummy conditions? Take a job at a bank. Interesting that Joel semi-praises Micros

All true, but at least I can better predict my ability to output effort than predict my ability to output results, even if I am good at what I do.

I'm guessing it's a mistake in the article. End of Summer was not too long ago, so a company with about $500K in the bank should be worth more than $270K premoney. I just thought of another explanation: Maybe the TV show only airs if a dea

The article seems to contradict itself; Shark Tank gave them a $270K pre after they "walked away with $500K in investments" at the end of the Summer? Maybe they meant all investor owned equity is now 25%? Notehall.com, one of 10 ventur

Even if we had unlimited computation, there are human factors that are tough to determine beforehand. For example, some originators encouraged their borrowers to lie more, and now post-meltdown some servicers are less willing to agree to lo

Interesting feedback. Did you try the "search map" mode? We've struggled with a good middle ground between having all the different sub-neighborhoods vs. simply allowing people to go to where they want to live by browsing on a map.

Great feedback. Square footage data is a bit too unpopulated for us to feel comfortable allowing that search (same with breaking up Brooklyn, sadly). Your other points are very valid. The map behavior in the "search map" mode seems to be

It sounds like you are looking for a roommates / shares site, not an apartment search site. A Craigslist aggregator with spam/scam/bait_and_switch filtering would be really cool, but that's a different startup. At least we agree apartment h

I should have said SOME 2br townhouses in 2004 were selling for $120K, as in, the starter homes I wound up buying. The median near MSFT campus was about $180K.

Every rental broker charges a fee for their services, the difference is whether the renter or landlord pays for it. It's a matter of local custom and market conditions, and New York City has traditionally been very heavily skewed towards r
