One might think governments could get on board for the sake of digital independence/sovereignty ; but so far that hasn’t been the reality. One day digital sovereignty could become a real priority, then it could happen.

One of PGs essays hit on this when he talked about “blub”. Building a language for a specific solution/domain was/is expensive, but using a language to build abstractions or an internal domain specific language has been much more

Iirc Delphi didn’t have threads, sockets, or OS integration (signals, file watching …). So it wasn’t suited to systems programming ie servers and services. It nailed gui applications, and that was a lot. Maybe freepascal has threads and soc

CICS is still going strong as part of ZOS. There are industries where green screen, mainframe terminal apps still rule and CICS is driving them.

Exactly this, it’s great fun to have a surface level understanding of a topic and post derisively for internet points; rather then spend the time and effort to actually learn about the subject at hand!

That’s quite impressive, I love this c renaissance! I noticed your project requires c++ compiler as well, I didn’t study it to understand why? Do you plan to keep that requirement?

High frequency trading is far from the only pointless activity software and hardware developers are employed to do. At least in that realm they are pushing the state of the art, unlike presenting ads or yet another crud app.

Post like this mystify me. I’ve been on Ubuntu since 2008 and I’ve never once had a failed install. Now installing redhat from floppies in 1998? Yes that sucked. But it’s been a good experience for a really long time.
